Specialty Doctor (General Ophthalmology)

UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS OF LEICESTER NHS TRUSTSpecialty Doctor in Ophthalmology (General Ophthalmology)Applications are invited for the permanent post of Specialty Doctor in the department of Ophthalmology with a special interest in General Ophthalmology, Cataracts and Non-Surgical Glaucoma for High volume low complexity working.

THIS ROLE WILL INCLUDE A MINIMUM A 1 CATARACT THEATRE LIST

This is permanent replacement post which will enhance the current establishment of NHS and academic staff of the Department of Ophthalmology.


Main duties of the job

The successful appointee will be expected to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and clinical audit. They will be required to undertake management duties and work in a multidisciplinary team. The appointee will have a principle interest in Gen Ophthalmology and Glaucoma and Cataracts, they will be expected to contribute to the General Ophthalmology and emergency service on the Leicester Royal Infirmary (LRI) site and associated community hospitals.

Please note, the job description contains an illustrative job plan, and the final timetable will be discussed and agreed upon on appointment. This is a Service provisional role and while we support development we do have a cohort of patients to deliver.

The appointee will join an active and enthusiastic team of 28 Ophthalmologists, 7x Specialty Doctors both generalist and sub-specialist Ophthalmology services are provided within the UHL.

1x Emergency Eye Casualty session a week is mandatory for all posts within Ophthalmology. This post does include 1x Saturday operating session per month.

Applicants must already be on the GMC specialist register or within 6 months of the interview date have a certificate of completion of specialist training.

As this post is regulated by the Protection of Children Act 1999, The Criminal Justice Courts Act 2000 and / or the Care Standards Act 2000 an enhanced police criminal records disclosure will be requested by the Trust in the event of a successful application.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Full GMC registration
* MBBS/MRCS


Motivation

* Enthusiasm and commitment to teaching
* Desire to develop the post further


Experience/Ability

* 4 years full time post graduate training or equivalent, at least 2 years as Ophthalmology trainee
* Evidence of commitment to sub-specialty Uveitis


Management

* Ability to work in MDT teams and supervise juniors
* Ability to cope in stressful situations
* Evidence of management and administrative experience


Personality


Audit

* Evidence of personal audit of own surgical outcomes
* Completion of formal audit courses


Research

* Understanding of and commitment to research and evidence-based practice in all aspects of medical care
* Practical experience of participation in research projects
