Shift Pattern
* Standard hours: 8:30am – 5:00pm
* Shifts can be split into half days to meet service needs
* On a 4‑week rotation, Band 3 staff will be required to cover one evening clinic (5:30pm – 8:30pm). This will form part of a long day shift.

Role Overview
Under the delegation and supervision of the registered healthcare practitioner, the health care support worker will carry out all of the delegated duties listed in the main responsibilities section below independently within the health care team.
The post holder will provide the fundamentals of care and extended skills to patients in the outpatient department to ensure high standards are maintained in a safe environment including patient safety and to make sure that the care experience is positive by treating all patients, family, relatives and colleagues with respect, dignity and courtesy in accordance with Trust values and policies.
Requirements

Responsibilities
* Carry out a wider range of duties and have more responsibility than a band 2 support worker.
* Contribute to service development and are responsible for self-development.
* Ensure all duties are in accordance with the skills matrix.
* Adhere to the STAR values – Service, Teamwork, Ambition and Respect.
* Provide fundamental care needs for individual patients under the direction and supervision of the registered practitioner.
* Work with others toward achieving shared goals, learning from mistakes and being open to the opinions of others.
* Respond constructively to change, coping with uncertainty and taking the lead in supporting others in the team as appropriate.
* Make best use of resources including time to achieve agreed goals for service delivery, taking responsibility for own actions and self-development.
* Provide patient‑centred, coordinated care within the limits of national minimum standards and the support worker code of conduct.
* Encourage active patient participation working with patients, relatives and colleagues to meet patient goals and promote independence.
* Provide care reflecting stage of treatment including end‑of‑life care.
* Work independently and undertake listed delegated familiar tasks with minimal supervision.
* Know what is expected in an emergency and be able to instigate emergency procedures.>
* Ensure the work environment is clean and in accordance with infection and prevention controls.
* Maintain up‑to‑date documentation and confidentiality.
* Operate within job role boundaries and not exceed set limits.
* Recognise what is normal for each individual patient’s wellbeing and report concerns or changes that are outside normal limits to the registered practitioner.
* Respond constructively to queries and complaints, ensuring contributions meet needs of patients and act in line with policy and legislation.
* Proactively raise concerns about service provision to patients and managers.
* Plan for and work toward achievement of learning goals.
* Carry out reflective practice.
* Maintain competencies and training as required in accordance with trust guidelines.
* Deal with a range of problems and people with honesty and integrity, showing interest in work and valuing contributions of others.
* Suggest alternative ways to get the job done without compromising compassionate care.
* Communicate routine and complex/sensitive information with patients, relatives and colleagues inclusively.
* Recognise risk in care provision, interpret risk assessments, provide care in line with care plan.
* Support and act as a role model to department/team assistants.
* Show awareness of patient advocacy and wider patient issues.
* Complete incident forms and report accidents/incidents/nearmisses to the registered practitioner.
