Principal Environmental Health Officer / Environmental Health Officer
Midlothian Council, the fastest growing local authority in Scotland, has an opportunity for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join our Public Health Environmental Protection Team. Applications will be considered for either a Principal Environmental Health Officer or an Environmental Health Officer.
The successful candidate will undertake an enforcement role in accordance with the appropriate Job Description and criteria outlined below.
This role offers hybrid working, allowing the successful applicant to combine working from home and from the office.

Environmental Health Officer – Grade 8 Salary £41,802.34
Knowledge
A degree or equivalent in Environmental Health plus a postgraduate qualification of a Diploma from the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS) or equivalent.
Travel throughout the area is essential, so a driving licence and access to a car are prerequisites.
Principal Environmental Health Officer – Grade 9 Salary £46,511.92
Knowledge
Essential
* A degree or equivalent in Environmental Health plus a postgraduate qualification of a Diploma from REHIS or equivalent.
* Competency in assessment and enforcement across statutory regimes relating to Public Health and Environmental Protection.
* Travel throughout the area is essential; a driving licence and access to a car are prerequisites.
Desirable
* Chartered Member of REHIS or working towards Chartered status.
* A further relevant qualification in an appropriate specialist or management field.
Experience
Essential
* Extensive experience and detailed knowledge of working in Environmental Health functions.
* Understanding of statutory regulations and upcoming legislative changes.
Desirable
* Post-qualification experience in Environmental Health and knowledge of local government processes.
* Experience managing staff.

* Hours: 36 hours/week, 52 weeks/year
Note: Successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale, with a minimum salary of £46,511.92 per annum.
