Job Description

As an Advanced Areothermal Engineer at Honeywell in Yeovil, you will design, develop and analyse aircraft control subsystems. This hybrid role is 3 days in the office + 2 days work from home.

We are looking for an Advanced Systems Engineer with a mechanical design background in CAD (NX preferred but not essential) and demonstrated experience in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for aerodynamics (StarCCM or Fluent preferred). The ideal candidate will also have knowledge and experience in technology development maturation through TRL levels and be familiar with test standards such as RTCA DO‑160G.

You will join our cross‑functional, multidisciplinary team to work on technology development, from initial concepts up to prototypes and flight demonstrators – progressing technologies of the future through the TRLs.

You will work closely with the rest of the team on major R&D projects, primarily focused on electro‑mechanical systems, avionics & control systems, as well as air & thermal systems of next‑gen sustainable aircraft powered by Hydrogen Fuel Cells, Hydrogen Gas Turbines or Hybrid Systems. You are expected to define trade‑off analyses, system modelling and simulations, and performance assessments for integrated power electronics subsystems, batteries and motors.

Honeywell Aerospace products and services are used on virtually every commercial, defence and space aircraft. We build aircraft engines, cockpit and cabin electronics, wireless connectivity systems and mechanical components. Our hardware and software solutions help create more fuel‑efficient aircraft, more direct and on‑time flights and safer skies.

Safer, more fuel‑efficient flying and innovations for the future of aviation. We have been innovating for more than 100 years and now we’re creating what’s next. Our programs serve a global community and our hometowns too. We provide resources and financial support to causes around the world and encourage employee volunteerism. We are committed to the highest standard in everything we do!

Key Responsibilities

* Design, develop, and analyse aircraft control subsystems for thermal management, electro‑mechanical systems, power electronics, batteries, motor cooling, avionics, etc.
* Utilise CFD tools to analyse aerodynamic performance and optimise designs for aircraft systems.
* Collaborate closely with subject matter experts on architecture definition, systems and component engineering, providing system‑level guidance, defining trade‑off studies and participating in system modelling and analyses.
* Define and plan system development, including sub‑systems and components breakdown.
* Work closely with project managers and other departments to provide support.

Qualifications

* M.Sc. or Ph.D. in a relevant engineering domain.
* 2–5 years of multidisciplinary engineering experience.
* Proficient command of the English language.
* Due to export control restrictions, EU nationality is required.

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate based on race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status or disability status.
