Are you ready to swap the traditional classroom for a learning environment that truly puts the child first?
We are a small, family-run independent school looking for an enthusiastic SEND Teacher to join our team. We support students aged 11–18 with complex needs, including Autism, ADHD, and SEMH. Our students often arrive with high levels of anxiety and low self-esteem, so our mission is simple: to rebuild their confidence through a nurturing, restorative approach.
What makes us different? We don’t just teach in classrooms. We are home to an Equine Yard with 40 horses. Our curriculum is holistic and therapeutic, incorporating a range of lessons both inside and outside the classroom.
The Role
You don’t need horse experience to apply—just an open mind, a pair of wellies, and a willingness to get stuck in!
We are looking for a versatile Classroom Teacher to join our supportive team. You will help deliver core subjects to small groups of students, specifically:
1. English
2. Maths (Functional Skills and GCSE)
3. Science
4. ASDAN qualifications (Employability and Life Skills)
We are looking for an educator who is:
5. Structured yet Engaging: Able to deliver lessons using Direct Instruction techniques that engage learners who may struggle in mainstream environments.
6. Resilient: Capable of supporting students when they are dysregulated or anxious.
7. Adaptable: Happy to move from the whiteboard to the outdoors to support student wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
8. Plan and deliver lessons tailored to individual needs (academic and personal development).
9. Utilise Direct Instruction teaching and learning techniques to provide clarity and routine.
10. Champion our Restorative Behaviour policy, helping students manage their emotions.
11. Work closely with our amazing Teaching and Behaviour Support Assistants.
12. Monitor progress and handle the necessary recording/assessment.
What We Offer You
13. Great Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30am–4:00pm (a healthy work-life balance).
14. Small Class Sizes: The ability to genuinely know every student and build relationships.
15. Health & Wellbeing: Private healthcare scheme (available after probation period).
16. Development: Ongoing CPD and training opportunities.
17. Community: A supportive, family-run environment.
The Details
18. Uniform: Staff uniform is required (purchased via School Trends).
19. Term Dates: Broadly follow Derbyshire dates.
20. Meetings: Fortnightly after school.
Process: Interviews include a tour and a half-day trial to ensure we are the perfect fit for each other.
If you are passionate about making a real difference to young people’s lives in a setting that offers more than just a desk and a whiteboard, we would love to hear from you.
