Job Description
The purpose of this role is to deliver a first-class student experience through research-informed teaching, impactful research, and knowledge exchange activities. The postholder will contribute to the University’s academic growth by aligning research with teaching, engaging with industry and professional partners, and fostering an inclusive community where everyone can thrive and achieve their potential. You will work closely with colleagues across the College of Leadership and Innovation to ensure top-quality, inclusive teaching, learning and research.
We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated and industry-experienced Lecturer in Aviation Operations with a specialisation in pilot training. This role will contribute to the delivery, development and enhancement of our aviation and pilot training provision, supporting students to progress into professional aviation careers. The successful candidate will teach across undergraduate and/or postgraduate aviation programmes, with a particular focus on pilot training, flight operations, and operational safety. You will also contribute to curriculum development, learner support, academic quality, and engagement with industry partners.

Main Duties & Responsibilities
* Research and Knowledge Exchange
o Conduct research and scholarly activity, clearly plan to generate income and align own research with teaching and learning.
o Engage with relevant business and professional networks to promote teaching and learning and research in a professional context.
o Engage in doctoral supervision.
o Contribute to knowledge through refereed conference outputs and peer-reviewed outputs.
o Embed research within teaching and curriculum and contribute to research impact.
o Contribute to the leadership of an inclusive and interdisciplinary research culture.
o Undertake research with external partners, communities, professional bodies and/or employers.
o Contribute to the REF and KEF and to internal and external research and enterprise strategies.
* Learning, Teaching & Scholarship
o Undertake research-informed teaching in the subject discipline managing all aspects of curriculum delivery and quality.
o Deliver educational knowledge and practice through generation of peer-reviewed pedagogical outputs.
o Contribute to the leadership of an inclusive teaching and learning culture and ensuring delivery of excellent student experience and outcomes.
o Contribute to research informed innovative pedagogy, curriculum and programme design and planning including digital technology to enhance learning.
o Deliver successful and impactful tutoring and pastoral support to students including the support of placements and internships.
o Engage with professional bodies, employers and other organisations to enhance professional practice and student outcomes.

Person Specification
Education, Qualifications & Training
* First degree in a relevant field
* Doctoral level qualification (or working towards) or relevant professional experience in field
* Current or previous professional pilot licence (e.g. ATPL, CPL, MPL)
* Recognised HE teaching qualification and/or Fellow of the HEA or evidenced commitment to achieving within two years
Knowledge & Experience
* Expert knowledge in discipline/field
* Knowledge of pilot training pathways (e.g. ATPL, MPL, integrated/modular training)
* Delivering quality learning and teaching to students/learners
* Evidence as an active researcher and delivery of high-quality research and scholarship
* Contribution to research active communities
* Delivering excellent student/customer experience
* Contribution to subject association; learning society or professional body
* Knowledge/experience of income generation OR funded projects
* Experience of research supervision, personal tutoring or personal development
Skills
* Excellent presentation and teaching delivery skills

Special Requirements
* A willingness and ability to work in off-site locations and across all University campuses, as required
* A willingness and ability to contribute to University Open Days (which may fall on Saturdays)
* Deliver a micro-teach as part of the interview process
