Project Controls Director – EU, UK

Position Summary: The Project Controls Director is responsible for ensuring that all capital projects across Europe and the UK are managed with the right capability, capacity and processes within the project controls discipline. The role leads a multidisciplinary team, oversees cost, schedule, risk, change and document management, and supports multi‑site, multi‑phase projects including facility expansions, technology transfers and greenfield developments.
Responsibilities
* Define and implement project controls strategy across the pharma capital project portfolio.
* Lead a team of project controls professionals (cost managers, planners, risk managers, contract managers, etc.) across global or regional sites.
* People management, coaching and mentoring of key resources.
* Ensure alignment with the GCP Project Management framework.
* Maintain relationships with leading project control service providers globally.
* Oversee development of detailed cost estimates, budgets and forecasts for projects ranging from GBP 10 M to 500 M+.
* Ensure integrated schedules reflect GMP milestones, commissioning, validation and regulatory timelines.
* Apply Earned Value Management (EVM) and other performance metrics to track progress and identify variances.
* Implement proactive risk management strategies and apply Quantified Risk Analysis with Monte Carlo simulations.
* Lead change control processes ensuring traceability, impact assessment and handling of changes through contract administration.
* Provide executive‑level reporting and dashboards to senior leadership, including capital steering committees.
* Perform project reviews, independent project reviews and health checks to detect issues early.
* Partner with cross‑functional teams (Engineering, Quality, Procurement, Finance, Regulatory Affairs) and advise sponsors on project health.
* Hands‑on experience with project management tools such as SAP, Oracle P6, MSP, Sypro, Monte Carlo simulation tools and earned value management.
Basic Qualifications
* Considerable experience delivering advanced planning and project controls on high‑visibility projects across multiple geographies.
* BSc/BEng in a relevant discipline or Chartered Engineer.
* Expert knowledge of stage‑gate models for capital project delivery through all lifecycle stages.
* Expert knowledge of planning, cost management, commercial and contract management, project management.
* Expert knowledge in contract types, their application and associated risks.
* Expert knowledge in cost, scope, risk, change management and forecasting.
* Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
* Rich experience in construction management, scheduling, progress management, value engineering.
Preferred Qualifications
* MSc or PhD or a relevant chartered/professional qualification.
* Excellent management, communication and interpersonal skills.
* Understanding of how different functions interface on GSK projects.
* Solid knowledge of GSK project processes, user requirements, quality and compliance requirements.
* Familiarity with the GCP Project Management Framework and relevant engineering standards.
* Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Cost Professional (CCP) or equivalent credentials (e.g., PMI‑SP, Lean Six Sigma).
Work Location: The role is based in the United Kingdom (GSK HQ, London), Irvine, Scotland, Wavre, Belgium, Evreux, France, or Parma, Rosia – Italy, offering a hybrid working model.
