Offer description

We are seeking to recruit two progressed social workers to join our Mental Health Social Work team.

We are a specialist social work team, supporting people whose lives are impacted by their mental health or by addictions to stay safe and live as independently as possible. The team work closely with colleagues from Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear (CNTW) NHS Foundation Trust and North Tyneside Recovery Partnership (NTRP) to provide a holistic, multi‑disciplinary approach to adults experiencing severe and enduring mental health issues and / or those who use substances.

The vision of the team is to work in collaboration with individuals to support them to achieve the best possible outcomes, to promote their safety and well‑being and to empower individuals to be as independent as they possibly can be. There is a strong commitment to working in partnership with residents, carers, professionals and providers, keeping the individual at the centre of the process throughout.

The team is experienced, friendly and supportive. Management work closely with front‑line social workers. The team adhere to legislative frameworks, including the Care Act (2014), Mental Capacity Act (2005) and the Mental Health Act (1983, amended in 2007) to support individuals to remain as safe and well as possible. We work within a Ways to Well‑being model which is flexible, responsive and promotes evidence‑based intervention and trauma‑informed practice. People are at the heart of everything we do.

We would particularly like to hear from a Social Worker who has an interest in working with people whose lives are impacted by addictions.

If you are not yet a Progressed Social Worker but have over 2 years’ experience, we would support your progression.

Staff health and well‑being is prioritised; North Tyneside Council strives to create a supportive and inclusive environment. Hybrid working is in place for all staff, workers receive monthly supervision, Stop the Clock days to provide uninterrupted time to focus upon administrative tasks, and access to a multitude of training opportunities. We invest in our workforce and are immensely proud to be in the top 5 Social Work employers in the country in the Standards for Employers of Social Workers Health Check 2024.

We’re proud to have a high number of staff who choose North Tyneside as their career for life. Here is what some of our brilliant colleagues in mental health have to say about working here: “I love my job because it’s never boring, there’s always something new to learn and every day is a challenge meaning I’m always evolving my skills and knowledge” – Jill (Senior Social Worker).

Our Carbon Net‑Zero 2030 Action Plan

In 2019, North Tyneside Council declared a climate emergency. This declaration set a target to reduce the carbon footprint of the council’s operations, and the borough, by 50% by 2023 and to align to the Government’s net zero target of 2050.

We recognise the significant role we can play in the borough in helping to limit climate change, but we can’t do this alone; we need help from all our residents, businesses, voluntary and community sectors and of course all those who apply and work for us.
