Santander Consumer Finance is one of the UK’s Leading Motor Finance companies and we are currently looking for an Employee Relations Partner to join our People and Culture team.

The purpose of the role is to serve as a key advisor in the management of employee relations matters ensuring consistency, fairness and alignment with company policies, procedures and legal requirements.

The role holder will be a subject matter expert to aide people managers through complex cases, including Employment Tribunal, where required. You will be providing a professional and pragmatic counsel and promoting a positive culture and risk pro attitude whilst maintaining the overarching relationships between management and trade unions.

Please note this role is a hybrid role with at least 3 days a week in the Redhill office. Remote workers will not be considered.

Responsibilities will include:


* Counsel and provide assistance to all levels of management in employee or management issues, including, but not limited to conduct, performance management, corrective action, restructuring/re-organisations, legal issues, investigatory process matters, terminations, conflict resolution and short/long term absence. Advice and support must comply with employment law, best practice, aligned to company policy and risk aware
* Maintain, manage and monitor all cases raised by management and employees through the People system, SNOW
* Develop and coach managers, drive knowledge transfer and develop capability and confidence levels across the management population to deal with ER matters
* Manage complex cases, using substantial knowledge and expertise, including leading complex case management to mitigate organisational risks
* Record and track HRMI, reporting and analysing, specifically formal case outcomes, along with conduct rule breaches ensuring all have been accurately recorded and reported in line with regulatory and legal requirements
* Collect, prepare and analyse Employee Relations data including case tracking, performance trends, exit interviews, etc. and provide insights and recommendations to key stakeholders and the strategic people partners
* Identify trends and recommend proactive solutions to recurring employee relations issues.
* Monitors internal business practices for compliance with relevant legislation
* Provide policy interpretation to employees, managers and ensure consistent application of policies and procedures
* Support communication processes between management, employees and trade unions
* Facilitate negotiation and bargaining processes with employees and unions on industrial matters
* Represent the company in arbitration and other labour related proceedings where required.
* Aid the People & Culture team with addressing policy/legal challenges, researching possible causes of actions and defences
* Maintain close links with occupational health and act as a link between managers and occupational health to facilitate the implementation of advice as well as other work-related matters
* Work with external legal and employment lawyers on key complex case work
* Collaborate with the team undertaking research and project work as required
* Adhering to our commitment to Consumer Duty ensuring we put our customers’ needs first and set higher and clearer standards of consumer protection

What we’re looking for:

* Significant employee relations experience, preferably within a unionised environment
* A broad and thorough knowledge of UK employment legislation
* Ability to build relationships, interact effectively and influence internal and external stakeholders at all levels
* Excellent communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
* A positive and dynamic approach to challenges, with the ability to set high expectations.
* Strong analytical and problem solving skills
* Demonstrable time management and planning skills
* Knowledge of mediation skills and techniques (preferred)
* Undergraduate degree in HR or equivalent related qualification, preferably CIPD qualified
* Relevant work experience supported by evidence of working towards appropriate qualification
