Job overview

To provide quality, effective pharmacy services to improve patient care including technical and

clinical services, and to assist in education and training of pharmacy and nursing staff.

To promote further development of the pharmacy technician’s role within the Trust.

Main duties of the job

1. Provision of a quality service, demonstrating reliability in completing medication drug histories and skill in non-routine tasks advising patients/carers on medication issues or handling routine drug queries within HBTT and GPs
2. Development of and participation in Community Mental Health Team duties to include medicines reconciliation, assessment of PODs, attending multi-disciplinary meetings, and liaising with other healthcare professionals to gather relevant information on current medication and compliance status of newly admitted patients within the Home-based Treatment team(HBTT).
3. Assistance in the review and management of the shared care procedures within the Home Based Treatment Team. 4. Contribute to development and implementation of policies and procedures within the department and those impacting across services Home Based Treatment Medicines Management guideline. 5. Supervise and train new starters within HBTT in the provision of an effective and efficient pharmacy services.

Person specification

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria

11. •BTEC Level 3 Professional Diploma in Pharmaceutical Science and NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Service Skills or equivalent
12. •Registered Pharmacy Technician with GPhC
13. ••Willingness to complete BTEC Professional Diploma in Dispensing Checking within agreed time frame

Desirable criteria

14. •Evidence of post-qualification training Certificate in Management.
15. •BTEC Professional Diploma in Dispensing Checking

Experience and knowledge

Essential criteria

16. •Relevant post qualification experience including recent employment in hospital pharmacy as registered technician
17. •High level of accuracy in complex dispensing
18. •Experience of supervision and training of pharmacy staff
19. •Experience in procurement of drugs and computerised ordering systems.
20. •High Level numeracy and IT Skills including pharmacy software

Desirable criteria

21. •Experience of working in a pharmacy within Mental Health.
22. •Current knowledge of Mental Health Act, NSF, NICE Guidelines, prescribing and services.
23. .Knowledge of Clozapine and CPMS.

The Trust mandates all post holders who require a DBS for their role to subscribe to the DBS Update Service. You will be required to enrol for this service for a fee of £16 per year and maintain registration throughout your employment with GMMH.
