About the role:
This role is the executional heartbeat of Whalar Social.
You are deeply immersed in internet culture, creators, communities, and the ever-changing mechanics of attention. You instinctively know what brands should say, when they should say it, where it should live, and how to make it land in a way that actually matters.
You are equal parts creative storyteller, trend obsessive, operator, and analyst - someone who can editorialise a content plan, write copy that sparks conversation, and turn cultural signals into social moments with speed and precision.
You don’t just follow trends. You spot the shift before everyone else catches on.
Reporting to the Social Media Director, you will play a central role in shaping the day-to‑day voice, behaviour, and cultural relevance of the brands we manage. You’ll work closely with Whalar’s Community and Insights teams, helping transform platform behaviour, creator trends, and audience conversation into social‑first brand thinking.
This is a role for someone who genuinely lives and breathes social - someone obsessed with the details, the pacing, the comments section, the format evolution, the creator ecosystem, and the feeling great social leaves people with after they scroll past it.
Here’s what you’ll do day‑to‑day:
* Own the day‑to‑day management of organic social channels across publishing, scheduling, copywriting, community management, and reactive social execution.
* Build and editorialise content calendars that are strategically grounded, culturally sharp, and platform‑native.
* Contribute to stand‑out social content using native platform tools, emerging formats, and creator‑first storytelling approaches.
* Live at the intersection of internet culture, creator behaviour, platform trends, and audience conversation - turning signals into social opportunities before they become obvious.
* Partner closely with Creative, Community, Strategy, and Insights teams to shape social‑first thinking across the business.
* Deliver reporting and performance storytelling across owned, earned, and competitor activity with a strong focus on optimisation and learning.
* Support new business opportunities with sharp cultural insight, audience understanding, and platform expertise.
* Owns cultural intelligence, highly analytical, owns the social listening tools and engine.
* Oversees community management.
Here’s what we’re looking for:
* 5+ years of experience across social media, cultural strategy, social listening, insights, or related disciplines.
* You are deeply online in the best possible way - obsessed with internet culture, creators, communities, and the mechanics of attention.
* You know the difference between content people consume and content people talk about.
* Strong instincts for what makes social content feel timely, native, entertaining, and culturally relevant.
* Highly analytical and able to turn trends, audience behaviour, and performance data into a clear point of view.
* Excellent written communication skills with the ability to write sharp copy, insightful reporting, and culturally aware content.
* Comfortable operating in fast‑moving environments where conversations, priorities, and opportunities shift quickly.
* Naturally curious, highly proactive, and obsessed with the details.
* A genuine passion for creators, entertainment, and the future of social.
