The role
Description This is not a generic BA resourcing request. Its a targeted intervention to fix a systemic problem that is currently slowing delivery and creating unsustainable workload for the hiring manager. The core problems the hiring manager is trying to solve are adopting new ways of working, specifically a scaled agile approach where analysis outputs are captured as - User stories Acceptance criteria Purpose of the Role The requirement is for a single experienced Lead Business Analyst to act as a specialist in user stories and acceptance criteria. Primary Objective To coach, guide, support, and challenge Business Analysts so that their outputs consistently reflect business value , rather than system solutions. Scope of the Role This role is not responsible for: Writing all user stories Owning delivery timelines Defining tools or Jira processes Acting as a technical or system-focused analyst Instead, the role will focus on uplifting quality and capability across the analyst community. Key Responsibilities Review high volumes of user stories and acceptance criteria Work alongside analysts in real time as they develop outputs Provide clear, constructive, and consistent feedback Reinforce best practice and agreed standards Challenge solution-led thinking and redirect toward business value Coach analysts at all levels, including senior and lead peers Reduce reliance on leadership as a quality gate Improve flow and throughput into engineering What Good Looks Like The successful candidate will: Demonstrate strong alignment with established guidance Identify and correct drift into solution-level detail Confidently deliver supportive but firm feedback Build credibility across the analyst community Improve analysis quality at source, reducing rework Key Requirements ? Business Value Focus Strong, demonstrable focus on business outcomes Ability to think from multiple perspectives, including: Customer Advisor Commercial / proposition value Not a system analyst operating under a BA title ? Coaching & Influence Proven ability to coach and mentor analysts Comfortable giving direct feedback and challenging behaviours Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills Hands-on and embedded within the team ? Domain Knowledge Experience within workplace pensions Understanding of relevant business contexts (e.g. schemes, advisors) Ability to translate domain knowledge into meaningful business value ? Pragmatic Tool Awareness Experience working with Jira and Confluence Tools are secondary to thinking and articulation capability Engagement Details Role Title: Lead Business Analyst Number of Roles: 1 Contract Length: ~6 months Location: Manchester / Glasgow or Edinburgh (hybrid presence required) Start Date: ASAP Programme: Large-scale, multi-year transformation initiative Context & Urgency This requirement is driven by: Increasing workload pressure on leadership Reduced delivery throughput A persistent capability gap across the BA community This role is critical to improving both delivery efficiency and team sustainability .
