Job title: Lead Global Engagement and Strategy Associate – Americas & Consumer Protection

1. Salary: National (Edinburgh and Leeds) ranging from £60,700 to £72,000 and London £66,600 to £80,000 per annum (Salary offered will be based on skills and experience)

SPC oversees firms and individuals (supervision), creates and reviews the rules by which they operate (policy) and identifies and remedies ineffective competition in markets (competition). This role is in the Global Strategy and Engagement Team, which sets and delivers on the FCA’s strategic engagement with non-European authorities and jurisdictions. It enhances the FCA’s capacity to meet its statutory and strategic objectives through high-quality international engagement, using a range of influencing tools and techniques.

Role responsibilities

5. Supporting the Manager and leadership of the Global Strategy and Engagement Team, particularly through the line management of around three Associates

6. Managing delivery of the FCA’s strategic engagement with authorities in the United States and wider Americas region as well as the International Division’s work on international retail & consumer protection policy

7. Leading the team in the analysis of key policy and political developments in priority Americas-region jurisdictions, notably the United States, and delivering the organisation’s response on strategic, policy, operational and supervisory challenges arising

8. Managing and enhancing bilateral relationships with key counterparts in the US and wider Americas region, as well as authorities responsible for the regulation & supervision of retail activities – including supporting participation in global standard-setting bodies that pertain to retail policymaking

9. Working with the team to set creative strategy and engagement plans for priority jurisdictions, working closely with colleagues across the FCA to ensure a coordinated and considered approach

10. Advising and supporting FCA Executive Directors and senior leadership in their engagement with key international partners – both virtually and in-person, which may require international travel. This will include working closely with HM Treasury and the Bank of England to support combined engagement opportunities, particularly senior Financial Fora/Dialogues, through to working-level led engagement

Skills required

Minimum:

11. Demonstratable experience of international relations, and advising & persuading internal and external stakeholders, preferably in relation to the US or Americas-region or on international retail/consumer protection issues

12. Prior experience of policy development, supervision or enforcement in relation to financial services and financial regulation

Essential:

13. Work inclusively and collaboratively, as part of a multi-disciplinary team, drawing on a range of skills across the wider organisation to deliver

14. Demonstrated experience delivering results through others, directing, motivating and supporting colleagues across multiple projects

16. Highly effective at both written and spoken communication, able to convey complex topics concisely and engagingly for different audiences

17. Identifies and manages key stakeholders, building rapport and constructive long-term relationships. Coordinating and planning engagement with senior stakeholders

18. Project management experience, with effective self-management and organisational skills, delivering multiple tasks on tight deadlines

19. Clear understanding and articulation of the FCA’s functions and objectives within the UK financial regulatory framework and our approach to regulation and supervision.

20. Comfortable working across a wide range of regulatory policy areas and challenges
