An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Waste Planning team as a Wastewater Treatment Planning Engineer, where you will play a pivotal role as the asset owner for wastewater treatment.
This position is central to our wastewater capital investment programme, ensuring all activities align with:
* Strategic objectives for infrastructure resilience
* Regulatory standards set by Ofwat and other bodies
* Customer expectations for service quality and environmental stewardship
What you'll do
As a Wastewater Treatment Planning Engineer, your duties include:
* Strategic Planning & Investment: Contribute to shaping a five-year plan aligned with long-term goals and regulations.
* Cost-Benefit Analysis: Ensure investments are financially sound and justified.
* Regulatory & Compliance Support: Assist with Ofwat submissions and liaise with auditors.
* Technical Oversight & Programme Management: Monitor capital delivery programmes and participate in design reviews.
* Design Standards Compliance: Review project designs for standards and affordability.
* Knowledge of wastewater or sludge treatment processes, hydraulic analysis, and computer hydraulic modelling.
* Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies.
* Planning & Documentation: Draft briefs, prepare business and management plans, and submissions to regulators.
What you'll need
* Analytical Thinking for hydraulic modelling and investment planning.
* Strong Communication Skills for stakeholder engagement.
* Ability to work cross-functionally across teams and agencies.
* Decision-Making skills for project reviews.
* Project Management experience for handling multiple schemes.
* Customer Engagement skills for liaising with councils and the public.
* Relevant Degree (not strictly engineering) with flexibility in academic background.
* Knowledge of wastewater treatment process design and civil engineering (preferable).
* Proficiency in Office Software (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
* Initiative and Independence to self-direct work.
* Interpersonal skills for relationship building.
* Confidence in public-facing roles and presentations.
