Fairfield School of Business (FSB) is an OfS-registered higher education provider with four leaning facilities located in economic centres across England. We work with communities and employers to offer a high quality, enriching academic experiences that lead to genuine professional advancement. Foremostly a specialist provider in business and management, FSB is opening new lines of provision in subject areas aligned to regional interests, such as counselling, criminology and computer science. We are recruiting academic governors to serve on FSBs Academic Board to ensure effective oversight of higher education delivery and academic quality. Candidates will have verifiable academic and/or commercial expertise in any subject areas where FSB promotes its education, and will be expected to robustly challenge assurances from the senior academic and programme management teams. This will include: critically reviewing FSBs frameworks for securing and maintaining academic standards in line with sector-recognised standards, providing an external perspective on the comparability FSBs taught higher education programmes with UK sector standards and practices, appraising FSBs pedagogic approaches and strategies for supporting students to successfully complete their degree courses, critically appraising the Schools plans for widening access and participation, considering appropriate responses to concerns and opinions raised by students (individually and collectively), Presently, FSB delivers degree programmes under sub contractual arrangements with UK universities, however the School is in the process of application for New Degree Awarding Powers (DAPs). Academic governorship would involve appraising FSBs preparedness for DAPs and its academic quality framework for the design and development of FSBs own awards. As an academic governor of FSB, you will be and accomplished academic and researcher and hold, or have held a senior academic position at a recognised university or other higher education institution (e.g., Dean, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, or Head of Department). You will meet fit and proper requirements applicable to academic governors and be available to attend three to four meetings a year, for which reasonable prior notice will be given. Candidates must: be conversant with UK HE quality assurance mechanisms, including the OfS Regulatory Framework, and external examining procedures, be experienced in interpreting and challenging complex academic performance metrics (e.g., NSS, TEF data, degree classification profiles, student demographic data), demonstrate commitment to the principles of equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) and the reduction of awarding/access gaps, hold, or be actively working towards Advance HE Fellowship, disclose conflicts of interest (particularly academic conflicts with competitor institutions) in line with the FSBs Conflicts of Interest Policy. Independent Governors will receive an induction to FSB which highlights its mission, values, culture and corporate configuration, and which sets out the responsibilities and expectations placed on governors. Remuneration arrangements for serving as an Academic Governor will be made on an individual basis with due regard for the value of the statutory, commercial and academic expertise of the governor and the specific needs of the organisation. All remunerated positions are subject to an annual appraisal. Reasonable expenses (such as travel and accommodation) will also be considered by the Board in accordance with the FSBs policy for approval. Job Type: Fixed term contract Work Location: In person
