Job Details We are looking for a committed Youth Worker who is passionate about improving life chances for all, so that children and young people can achieve their full potential. As a Youth Worker, you will work under the direction and supervision of a class teacher or senior member of staff to assist by supporting children and young people who have been identified as requiring additional support. You will be required to Plan, organise, deliver and evaluate general activities such as arts and crafts sessions, sports events, team challenges, and more specific activities such as Youth Achievement Award projects and residential learning experiences. Promote a positive health and wellbeing message which includes participation in physical activities and an awareness of mental and sexual health issues. Delivering health based discussion groups and activities as well as completion of health based project work and peer education programmes. Develop open, honest and trusting relationships to provide opportunities for growth and development in a supportive environment by providing planned and spontaneous informal learning opportunities and peer interaction such as thematic discussions, project work and team challenges. Engage and lead young people in group discussions and group activities that promote acceptance and understanding of others and equality of opportunities for all. Qualification, Registration and Skill Requirements You are required to have good levels of interpersonal skills and abilities which will enable you to work as a member of a team to ensure positive outcomes for all children and young people. Experience of supporting young people with additional support needs You must have the ability to register with SSSC within 6 months of taking up employment in this role (Early Learning Centres/Primary and Special schools only) and must complete the required Post Registration Training and Learning (PRTL) over the registration period 2 National 5’s, or 2 Standard Grades General, or 2 O Grades or equivalent (SCQF Level 4 or above) For Early Learning Centres/Primary and Special schools only - NC in Early Education and Childcare at SCQF Level 6 or SVQ Social Services (Children and Young People) at SCQF Level 6 or Professional Development Award in Education Support Assistance at SCQF Level 6 or equivalent or, a commitment to achieve in the first period of registration as required by the Employer Good IT Skills Before confirming your appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme Further Information Role Profile - When preparing your supporting statement, review the role profile and think about how you meet the essential criteria Role Profile How We Work Matters - Our employees are expected to display and promote certain behaviours in the workplace.
