Overview
We are recruiting a Fluvial Flood Risk Modelling Officer to join our national flood risk evidence modelling service. The team supports the Environment Agency’s Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) programmes, providing an evidence base for flood management and informing strategic decision‑making in support of EA2030.
Responsibilities
* Advising and supporting on investment, asset maintenance and flood mapping projects to ensure accurate evidence for decision making.
* Developing and strengthening technical capabilities in line with the technical development framework.
* Advising flood risk management teams on hydraulic and hydrological modelling.
* Developing data management, hydraulic and hydrological modelling capabilities.
* Communicating flood risk analysis and results with internal and external stakeholders.
* Providing best‑practice advice on tools and techniques for hydraulic and hydrological modelling approaches.
* Demonstrating positive health, safety, and wellbeing behaviours and supporting incident management.
Team Overview
The DDE team within the Flood Risk and Coastal Management Department delivers hydrology and hydraulic modelling services, providing expert advice, data and analysis to support flood management and improve understanding of flood risk.
Qualifications & Experience
* Experience in science, flood risk and/or data management.
* Ability to analyse and process data and information.
* Strong communication and customer service skills.
* Ability to influence, persuade and work effectively as part of a team.
* Problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
* Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusivity.
* Skill in building relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
* Understanding of how flood‑risk evidence supports investment programmes and mapping projects.
* Proficiency in flood modelling software (e.g., Flood Estimation Handbook, Flood Modeller, TuFLOW, InfoWorks ICM).
* Data processing, management and GIS software skills.
