We are recruiting a fixed-term role, up to 2 years, for somebody with experience of working in or regulating energy sectors, including combustion plants, waste incineration, and refineries.
You’ll need to:
* provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance, and training
* develop strategy for our sectors and produce the tools to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes
* commission and manage external research projects where needed
* work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations, and other key industry players
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be asked to take on an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.
The team
The Energy & COMAH team are part of Energy and Manufacturing Industries Regulation of Environment & Business (E&B) Directorate.
Our technical experts lead on the definition of standards for our sectors, providing strategic direction, guidance and training to deliver new duties, and environmental best practice.
Experience / Skills Required
* ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures and actively encourage diversity issues in work
* relevant technical and regulatory knowledge and experience of the work area, including control measures for emissions to air where relevant
* ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies, and academia
* work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals

Legislative Knowledge: Applies a knowledge of statutory environmental and technical requirements to protect both the Environment Agency and the environment. As a senior advisor for the energy sectors you will give advice on different regulatory requirements applying to combustion plants.

Builds and Sustains Relationships: Develops and maintains effective working relationships with a range of external and internal stakeholders.
