Job Description
🏙️ Development Manager (12-month FTC – Maternity Cover)
📍 Birmingham (Hybrid: 2 days onsite)
💰 £54,387 – £60,955 DOE
Looking to shape real places and not just tick boxes?
We’re looking for a Development Manager to help unlock some of the most exciting housing and regeneration schemes in the region.
This is a 12-month fixed-term opportunity, working within a collaborative and mission-led public sector team. The focus is on making real impact: bringing forward the kinds of schemes the market wouldn’t back alone, and ensuring they’re robust, viable, and genuinely beneficial to communities.
👇 What you’ll be doing:
🔍 Development appraisals
* Analyse applications for grant funding — residential-led, mixed-use, regeneration, and extra care schemes
* Review appraisals, check costs and GDV, sense-check assumptions, and write clear, evidence-based reports
* Commission external due diligence where needed
* Recommend whether schemes are fundable — balancing commercial insight with public good
🤝 Stakeholder engagement
* Build trusted relationships with local authorities, developers, and other key stakeholders
* Help grow and shape a pipeline of impactful, shovel-ready schemes
* Represent the organisation externally and navigate complex political environments
✅ What you’ll need:
* Strong attention to detail and confidence with numbers
* Experience appraising development projects or assessing funding viability
* An understanding of land pricing, development finance, or construction principles
* Ability to work autonomously and write clear, well-argued reports
* Political awareness and a collaborative mindset
🌍 Why join?
* Work on high-profile, meaningful projects — from £100m town centre regenerations to extra care housing schemes
* Be part of a team that gets things moving — often where others haven’t
* Focus on placemaking, not just unit numbers
* Join a friendly, multidisciplinary team, led by Max Abbott, who’ll support your development
