PIP2 Assistant Investigator
Location: Indemnity House, Sir Frank Whittle Way, Lytham St Annes, Blackpool, FY4 2FB, United Kingdom
Contract: 3 month contract with likely extension
Hours: 37 hours per week (Monday-Friday)
Pay Rate: £19.19 PAYE per hour
About the Role:
To conduct serious and complex investigations into allegations of misconduct and criminality involving Constabulary employees or volunteers. The role holder will act as Officer in the Case where appropriate, gathering, securing, and presenting evidence to criminal and misconduct proceedings, while maintaining public confidence and organisational integrity.
This role demands professional judgement, resilience, and the ability to operate with minimal supervision in sensitive, high-risk investigations.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct serious and complex criminal and misconduct investigations in line with PACE, CPIA, and force policy.
Act as Officer in the Case, planning investigative strategy, managing workload, and meeting investigative deadlines.
Secure, preserve, and manage evidence to evidential standards suitable for court and misconduct hearings.
Interview victims, witnesses, and suspects in accordance with legislation and best practice.
Compile comprehensive investigation reports and case files for CPS, courts, and misconduct proceedings.
Present evidence confidently at court, misconduct hearings, and internal review meetings.
Maintain accurate records using force IT systems and investigative databases.
Engage professionally with members of the public, complainants, victims, and witnesses, including managing expectations and providing updates.
Manage appeals and complaints processes, including correspondence and record-keeping.
Provide specialist advice and guidance to officers and staff regarding complaints and misconduct matters.
Support and mentor Police Investigation Officers as required.
Deliver PSD-related training or briefings when requested.
Work flexibly across the county and support priority or volume crime investigations when directed.
Essential skills and experience:
PIP Level 1 accredited.
PIP Level 2 trained and accredited or willing to complete and achieve accreditation within required timescales.
Proven experience investigating crime, including volume and priority investigations.
Experience interviewing victims, significant witnesses, and suspects.
Sound working knowledge of PACE, CPIA 1996, disclosure obligations, and evidence handling.
Experience compiling investigation files suitable for CPS and court.
Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
Experience dealing professionally with members of the public, including in challenging or confrontational situations.
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
