Overview
Contract Integration Architect (Hands-On / Consultancy Focus)
Chester (Hybrid)
6 Month Contract
The Opportunity
We’re working with a large UK business operating across automotive and financial services, looking to bring in a pragmatic, hands-on Integration Architect to review a complex, integration-heavy technology estate.
This is not a traditional enterprise architecture role.
They need someone who can get under the skin of how systems actually work, map integrations, and quickly identify where things are fragile, inefficient, or overly complex.
The environment includes financial platforms, CRM systems, marketing tools, and 20–30 third-party integrations, and has evolved organically over time.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Assessing a complex, real-world technology estate (not just reviewing diagrams)
* Mapping APIs, data flows, and system integrations across multiple platforms
* Understanding how systems interact day-to-day, including edge cases and failure points
* Identifying operational risks, bottlenecks, and technical debt
* Recommending practical improvements to stabilise and simplify the estate
* Producing clear, usable documentation of the current integration landscape
* Working closely with stakeholders to translate complexity into actionable insight
* Presenting findings in a clear, commercially grounded way
What They’re Looking For
This role suits someone with a consultancy mindset, someone who can walk into ambiguity, build relationships quickly, and add value fast.
Core Experience
* Strong background in integration architecture (APIs, system integration, data flows)
* Experience working within complex, integration-heavy environments
* Ability to break down messy, undocumented estates and make sense of them
* Strong stakeholder engagement, able to challenge and guide, not just observe
* Experience within financial services / lending environments (highly desirable)
What to Avoid (Not This Role)
* Heavy TOGAF / capability modelling / framework-led architects
* Pure business architecture backgrounds
* Architects who haven’t been close to technology or integrations in recent years
This is about practical architecture, not theory.
Responsibilities
* Clear view of the current integration landscape
* Mapping of systems, APIs, and dependencies
* Identification of risk areas and failure points
* Quick-win recommendations to improve stability
* Practical guidance for future simplification and investment
Why This Role
You’ll be stepping into a business that needs clarity, not slides, someone who can quickly understand a complex estate and provide real, actionable direction.
