Senior Communications and Policy Manager – Interim opportunity

Location: Solihull – 2 days office/3 days home

Salary: Up to £70,000 (can be day rate equivalent or as FTC)

This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced communications specialist to work in a role that makes a real impact, within an organisation at the forefront of skills for a greener world.

Our client is the voice of the sector, working with members, government, and regulators to address skills challenges in the utilities sector. They provide membership, assurance, and skills solutions to attract, develop, and maintain a skilled workforce.

As the Senior Communications and Policy Manager, you will operate at Group level, reporting to the CEO and liaising with sales, membership, and marketing teams, as well as other senior stakeholders, to create and execute a robust communications plan for the upcoming five-year strategy launching in October. You should be comfortable engaging with high-level stakeholders, including government leaders.

Key responsibilities include:

* Developing and implementing comprehensive communication strategies externally and internally.
* Creating thought leadership pieces, white papers, securing speaking opportunities, and media coverage.
* Managing communication channels such as web, video, social media, PR, and events.
* Overseeing policy document production and managing consultation responses and inquiries.
* Preparing communication materials for political conferences and networking events.
* Developing and managing the organisation’s positioning on skills and sector policy across various government levels, ensuring message consistency.

Qualifications and experience required:

* Proven experience in a senior communications and policy role.
* Background in public sector, utilities, independent training providers, or similar; experience with awarding organisations is a plus.
* Experience in external communications, external affairs, and policy.
* Excellent presentation and speaking skills, especially at high-profile events and government briefings.
* Influential with strong relationship-building skills.
* Willingness to work from Solihull office two days a week with flexibility for travel.

This role is initially interim for approximately six months, available as a fixed-term contract or day rate freelance. There is potential for the role to become permanent for the right candidate on a temp-to-perm basis.
