System Design Engineer Permanent role Client : Quest Global Skills, Qualifications and Experience required: • Holder of a Master of Engineering degree or equivalent from an accredited institution, including Electrical Power Systems and Power Electronics subjects. • Proven substantial knowledge and practical experience in performing the specific aspects of design, implementation and testing of High Voltage AC or DC power transmission schemes and equipment. • HVDC domain knowledge • High voltage equipment specification, design and testing (e.g., power transformers, reactors, capacitors, switchgear, instrumentation transformers and transducers, surge arresters, bushings and insulators); • Reliability, availability and maintainability (RAM) assessment and management • Electrical power systems modelling and analysis. • Insulation co-ordination Aware of • Circuit analysis • Power control • Reactive power design • HVDC valves and their control systems. Role Overview: • This role is designed to interpret the customer’s technical enquiry and to design the most costeffective overall solution for an HVDC installation utilizing the PES power electronics solutions, aiming to minimizing the total cost, and to specify the main (high-value) items of bought-out equipment. The successful candidate will be involved in the development and industrialization of solutions tools and processes and will have technical knowledge in the field of power system engineering (academic or professional). • The successful candidate will be part of an established team of experienced power systems engineers which will provide them with various opportunities to develop their skills in the field of high voltage AC and DC power system design via mentoring by Systems Experts, on-the-job training, classroom training (such as the HVDC university training modules), placement in other engineering departments etc. • Main Circuit Design • Insulation Coordination Studies • Equipment Lifecycle Management • Preparation of equipment technical specification • Review of the supplier documents • Equipment Data Sheet / GTP • Inspection and Test Plans (ITP) • Review Type Test reports / documents • Review Routine Test Reports • Operation and Maintenance Manual Awareness of Technical Domain Tools • Power Network Analysis (PSS/E, DigSilent, Eurostag) • EMT Software (PSCAD, EMTP-RV, ATP) • Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) • MATLAB & Simulink.
