Role: Children and Young Persons Practitioner - Refuge
Location: Basildon (multiple sites)
Rate: £18 per hour Umbrella

Hours: 35 hours per week
Our client, a registered charity providing domestic abuse services across the south of Essex, is seeking a CYP Practitioner to join their team.
Responsibilities:
1. Create a safe and welcoming environment for all children in the refuge setting.
2. Ensure the ‘voice of the child’ is considered in assessments, support plans, and advocacy.
3. Complete robust risk and therapeutic assessments for all children, addressing their individual needs.
4. Manage a caseload of children and young people, supporting their recovery and processing experiences.
5. Support mothers in the refuge to be effective parents, meeting their children's needs and addressing safeguarding concerns.
6. Contribute to planning and developing Children’s Services offerings.
7. Deliver weekly support via one-to-one sessions and group work, using play and other interventions.
8. Lead play activities during holidays and after school, providing engaging activities for children and their mothers.
9. Advocate for children to access educational settings such as nurseries and schools.
10. Collaborate with statutory and voluntary agencies involved in the families’ cases, attending meetings as necessary.
11. Deliver parent and child group programs like ‘You, Me, Mum’ and ‘Helping Hands’.
12. Provide parenting support and advice, reporting concerns through safeguarding procedures.
13. Organize trips and events for families during school holidays and transport them when required.
14. Maintain accurate service user data and handle administrative duties.
15. Conduct risk assessments for activities, ensuring health and safety compliance.
16. Work sensitively respecting cultural differences and addressing barriers such as discrimination.
17. Represent the organization at external meetings, supporting the VAWG agenda.
18. Identify safeguarding issues and follow procedures to report concerns promptly.
19. Ensure health and safety standards for staff and service users are met.
20. Stay updated on domestic abuse, stalking, and VAWG issues.
21. Participate in supervision to uphold high standards of support and advocacy.
22. Maintain confidentiality, professional boundaries, and security protocols.
Essential Requirements:
* Experience working with children, young people, or adults experiencing domestic violence and abuse.
* Experience managing a caseload, assessing needs, and developing support plans.
* Experience planning play activities for children and young people.
* Ability to identify safeguarding concerns and report in line with procedures.
* DBS check on the update service.
* Immediate availability.
* Driver with access to a vehicle.
