West of Scotland Graduate Apprentice ODP Programme 2026.
Overview
NHS Forth Valley is offering an innovative Graduate Apprenticeship Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Operating Department Practice in partnership with the University of the West of Scotland. The 3‑year programme starts in September 2026 and blends online educational theory with clinical work‑based learning. Candidates will gain progressive experience across NHS Forth Valley peri‑operative environments, supported by clinical mentors, and gain eligibility for Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration as an ODP upon successful completion.

Entry Qualifications
* 5 passes in Scottish National Qualifications, including 3 at Higher Level C or above.
* Equivalent or non‑standard qualifications (Foundation Apprenticeships, Modern Apprenticeships, SVQs/NVQs, HNC, HND and access programmes) will also be considered.
* Applicants not meeting standard entry can be considered if they have at least one year of relevant work experience and meet the DipHE entry criteria (five subjects with two at higher level or equivalent).
English Language Requirements
Candidates must be able to communicate in English to the HCPC requirement of a Level 7 IELTS score, with no element below 6.5.
Academic Course Fees
Qualification for funding from the Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS). Funding is paid directly to the university; each student is responsible for applying individually.
Salary
Apprenticeship pay is covered by Annex 21 of the Agenda for Change terms:
* Up to 12 months prior to completion – 75 % of the fully qualified rate pay band maximum.
* More than 12 but less than 24 months prior – 70 % of the qualified rate pay band maximum.
* More than 24 but less than 36 months prior – 65 % of the qualified rate pay band maximum.
As from 1 April 2026, the full‑time working week will be reduced from 37 to 36 hours. The hourly rate will be increased proportionally so pay is not affected.
