Enterprise Control Systems (ECS), a leading division within SPX Technologies, specialises in high-performance RF technology solutions that serve global defence, law enforcement, and homeland security markets. Based in Wappenham, Northamptonshire, ECS is renowned for designing advanced RF data links, counter-drone solutions, and secure communications technology that enable secure, resilient, and robust connectivity in critical, high-stakes environments. At ECS, we blend innovation with impact, helping clients succeed in complex missions across the defence, aerospace, and security sectors.
We are seeking a Senior RF Design Engineer to join our highly skilled engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced and self-sufficient RF professional to contribute to both New Product Introduction (NPI) and Sustaining Engineering across a broad range of innovative projects.
Key Responsibilities:
* RF Circuit Design: Engage in system architecture, RF simulation, schematic capture, and PCB layout. Work on general RF circuits and have the opportunity to contribute to high-power amplifiers, converters, and power supplies.
* Product Development: Lead and support full product lifecycles, from requirements capture through to design, testing, and validation.
* Technical Authority: Troubleshoot and resolve RF-related challenges, working closely with embedded, product, and mechanical engineering colleagues.
* Independent Work: Manage your own workload and testing with minimal supervision.
* Mentoring & Collaboration: Provide guidance to junior engineers and help evolve team practices through knowledge sharing and documentation.
What We’re Looking For:
* Experience: Background in RF design or a closely related field in a commercial setting.
* Technical Skills: Familiarity with PCB design software and RF simulation tools; knowledge of RF amplifiers, filters, EMC principles, and both analogue and digital electronics.
* Desirable: Experience with up/down converters, power supply design, and test equipment (e.g. spectrum/network analysers).
* Work Style: Confident working autonomously, able to take ownership of complex technical tasks.
* Qualifications: Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
* Security: British citizenship or eligibility for Security Clearance (SC) is required.
Remote-First Working:
This is a remote-first role, offering flexibility while retaining meaningful connection with our on-site team. We ask that candidates are able to attend the Wappenham office approximately one week per month for key meetings and collaboration. All travel and accommodation costs for these visits will be covered. Ideally, you should be located within a two-hour drive of the site.
Why Choose ECS?
* Impactful Work: Contribute to secure RF technologies used in vital defence and national security applications.
* Growth & Innovation: Be part of a high-performing, collaborative team developing next-generation technology.
* Global Reach: Enjoy the backing of SPX Technologies — a global organisation with a dynamic and agile engineering culture.
Bring your RF expertise to ECS, where your skills will shape pioneering technologies that make a real-world difference.
