Cordius are working with the leading manufacturer of professional power tools in the UK, based in Telford, Shropshire. Each year, their facility produces around 1.1 million tools. 70% of these tools are exported, 60% to Europe and 10% to the rest of the globe, with the remaining 30% supporting the company’s UK's domestic customer service.
Due to continued success, a great opportunity is now available to join their team as a Supplier Quality Engineer who will assess and assure supplier quality in all aspects of performance and drive supplier continuous improvement activities to reduce PPM defects within the supply chain.
Role: Permanent, immediate start available
Hours: 39 hours per week
Responsibilities:
* Collaborate with suppliers and identify improvement opportunities and lead successful implementation of projects to improve quality/capability/productivity whilst reducing variability using six sigma methodology and lean techniques.
* Analyse supplier daily defect data and lead comprehensive investigations to identify root cause failure mode, cause of occurrence and cause of outflow using 8D methodology.
* Drive supplier continuous improvement activities through visits, audits, and video meetings to reduce supplier defect PPM in line with weekly indexes and department/business plan objectives.
* Drive supplier performance to identify nonconformances and drive supplier process improvement, root cause analysis, and robust corrective action/preventive action.
* Identify and drive supplier audit visits to ensure manufacturing processes, work instructions and process inspection criteria is sufficient, systematically controlled and operationally effective to ensure satisfactory product.
* Provide Quality guidance and support to suppliers to ensure process and component compliance to Makita drawings and specifications.
* Drive SQE-related activities within new product introduction (NPI) process to understand design intent and technical requirements and to ensure SQE NPI deliverables on supplier and part qualification are accurate and delivered on time.
* Ensure effective containment for Quality, both internally and at the supplier.
* Drive continuous improvement activities within the department to improve the incoming inspection, containment, and rework processes.
* Communicate effectively, ensuring any problem that may affect production is escalated to Manager level in a timely manner.
* Provide daily supervision and support to the Goods Inward team.
Skills and Competencies:
* Hold a degree or equivalent within an engineering discipline
* GCSE English and Maths Grade C and above
* Have proven experience in supplier quality within high volume manufacturing
* Have an e xcellent understanding of engineering drawings and GDT principles with knowledge and experience of ISO 9001:2015 and internal auditing; ISO9001, TS16949.
* Have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
* D iligent with good attention to detail
* A ble to work on own initiative and in a team environment
