About Us
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is the UK’s principal competition and consumer protection authority that drives market outcomes that benefit people, businesses and the UK economy. Our work is high profile, continually evolving and intellectually stimulating with a regular presence in national media and of interest around the world. We are facing far-reaching changes in our external operating environment and equally material changes to our own responsibilities
and functions.
This is particularly true for our Consumer Protection work as the Digital Markets Competition and Consumers Act 2024 gives us significant new powers to directly enforce consumer protection law. These new powers give us a refreshed mandate for consumer protection. The opportunity to stand up for consumers more effectively than ever before.
Your Role
As Senior Director, you will have responsibility for leading the delivery of the CMA’s Consumer Protection pipeline and portfolio, overseeing multiple cases as well as our programmes of guidance, business engagement and stakeholder management. You’ll ensure our consumer protection and markets regimes are delivered to a clear vision, in a collaborative and inclusive working culture.
You will lead multi-disciplinary teams of lawyers, economists and tech specialists to deliver high impact outcomes benefiting UK consumers and the economy as well as being a visible and empowering leader to staff.
This is a unique opportunity to shape the strategy and first enforcement cases under the DMCCA, setting the precedents for how enforcement in this area will develop going forward and responding to the challenges inherent in establishing a new and effective model of consumer enforcement.
About You
You will bring to the role exceptional knowledge and experience in applying and enforcing consumer protection laws. It’s essential that you have a strong understanding of market study and market investigation processes within the UK’s statutory framework. We expect you to demonstrate a measurable track record of taking strategic decisions, managing risks proactively and operating collegiately within complex governance arrangements. A highly credible individual, you have the ability to move between strategic thinking and technical detail. Your communication and influencing skills will equip you to manage complex, high-level stakeholder relationships.
The Benefits
Your benefits package will include a competitive contributory pension scheme and generous annual leave, plus opportunities for flexible and hybrid working. The package also includes access to season ticket and bicycle loans. The Civil Service is committed to becoming the most inclusive employer in the UK and we want to maximise the potential of everyone who chooses to work for us. In return for your dedication, you will enjoy our commitment to your career and development.
Closing date: 10 July 2025.
