We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity to work as a Consultant in Palliative Medicine within the King's College Hospital Princess Royal Hospital (PRUH) Specialist Palliative Care Service. This is a substantive post joining the team based at PRUH with a focus to enhance specialist palliative care in the emergency care pathway. The palliative care team offers an advisory service to patients with palliative care needs and promotes excellence in end of life care across the Trust. We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic individual who will contribute to the development of this dynamic multi-professional team and build on partnerships across the locality. The post will sit within a collaborative network across our Clinical Academic Group within King's Health Partners. A wealth of opportunities exist to be involved in research via established links with the Cicely Saunders Institute. This post joins a 1 in 16 category B on call rota.
You must be fully registered with the GMC and hold a Licence to Practice and be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of attaining your CCT or equivalent to be eligible for interview.
Main duties of the job
1. The palliative care social worker is available to support the team for complex psychosocial issues. The consultant team aim to ensure cover is available at all times across both sites. An office with computer for the consultant is available along with a separate team office. Out of hours cover is provided by the joint consultant on call rota covering Guys, St Thomas', Lewisham and King's.
2. The post holder will work collaboratively with their consultant colleagues to deliver excellence in palliative care and contribute to excellence in end of life care across the Trust. They will also work with colleagues based in the community, specifically in the borough of Bromley including St Christopher's Hospice, to enhance the coordination and delivery of care for patients and carers with the aim of developing a 'whole-systems' approach in the Bromley area
3. The post holder will work collaboratively with their other consultant colleagues to develop new areas of support across the site. This role will focus on the development of palliative care services proactively in the emergency care pathway. Other areas of focus include development of palliative care service for frail
4. The on call commitment is for 1:16 rota, which is classed as a category B. On call telephone advice is provided to health professionals across King's, St Thomas', Guys and Lewisham Hospitals and Guys and St Thomas' community palliative care team
5. Registrable medical qualification.
6. [MRCP] or equivalent.
7. Within six months of the expected date of CCT (or equivalent) on the day of interview.

10. Wide experience in all aspects of Palliative Care, culminating in award of CCT or equivalent.
