About the Role

Do you have a background in property-related accounts or financial services, and a passion for leading high-performing teams? Mears Housing Management is looking for a proactive and motivated Finance Team Leader to support the delivery of the Keyworker Housing Scheme on behalf of a Central Government Department.
We manage approximately 3,000 properties nationally and provide an end-to-end service to our occupants. Our Finance Team plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth running of the contract, managing a wide range of financial processes including landlord and rent payments, utilities, council tax, supplier invoices, temporary accommodation claims, deposits, and dilapidations.
As a Finance Team Leader in our Basingstoke branch, you will take ownership of team performance, financial accuracy, and stakeholder relationships, ensuring we continue to deliver a high-quality, compliant, and customer-focused service
Team Leadership & Development
1. Lead, motivate, and support a team of 10 finance professionals including Finance Assistants, Administrators and a Business Apprentice.
2. Conduct regular performance reviews and provide coaching, feedback, and development opportunities.
3. Foster a high-performance culture built on communication, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Financial Operations
4. Oversee daily financial processes including purchase ledger, sales ledger, and reconciliations.
5. Ensure all transactions are processed accurately and in line with contractual and regulatory requirements.
Performance & Compliance
6. Monitor KPIs and take action to ensure financial and operational targets are met.
7. Maintain accurate financial data and ensure compliance with audit, contractual, and regulatory standards.
8. Implement effective escalation processes to resolve discrepancies or issues.
Stakeholder & Customer Management
9. Lead by example to deliver excellent customer service.
10. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, landlords, suppliers, and contractors.
Continuous Improvement & Projects
11. Encourage innovation and process improvement within the team.
12. Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to enhance end-to-end processes.
13. Support ad hoc projects and provide cover for colleagues when required.
Role Criteria:
14. Experience in a finance department, ideally within housing, property services, or a similar environment
15. Proven leadership experience with the ability to motivate, influence, and drive change
16. Strong analytical skills and experience producing accurate reports and statistical analysis
17. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
18. Advanced Excel skills and confidence using Microsoft Office and financial systems
19. Knowledge of compliance, risk management, and accurate record-keeping
20. Accounting qualifications (AAT, ACCA, or equivalent) or substantial relevant experience
21. Highly organised, resilient, and able to manage multiple priorities
22. Strong problem-solving skills and experience managing escalations
