We are looking for a Communications Lead to join a pensions consulting business within the private sector. You will manage a high‑performing communications team and lead client partnerships and the strategic direction of private sector consulting clients in the pensions space.

This role requires proactive management and accountability for delivering a top-tier service, ensuring client satisfaction, driving growth, and enhancing commercial profitability.

You will be the key client contact, leading all aspects of day‑to‑day service delivery, quality, and standards. In addition, you’ll manage a talented team, supporting their professional development and ensuring the operational success of communications projects.

You will own the business plan for your team, including revenue generation and client communication growth, and work closely with Market Leaders, Client Relationship Directors, and Business Development colleagues to secure organic opportunities.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities

Client Development & Delivery

* Lead end‑to‑end service delivery and relationship management for clients, ensuring the highest quality of work and client satisfaction.
* Engage with senior stakeholders, providing consultancy and strategic direction through meetings, workshops, and calls.
* Collaborate closely with internal teams and subject matter experts to deliver comprehensive solutions that meet client needs, including digital, CX, and education.
* Develop and implement retirement communication strategies aligned with overarching business goals.
* Oversee project and campaign planning, ensuring alignment with client strategic objectives.
* Ensure the quality and accuracy of project deliverables, particularly complex copy and communication materials.
* Support communication ROI through measurement, analytics, and insights.
* Drive client profitability and growth, proactively managing risk and resolving issues.

Team Leadership

* Line manage a team of Account Managers and Account Executives, providing mentorship and coaching.
* Monitor and evaluate team performance, driving continuous improvement and success.

Relationship Building

* Build strong internal and external relationships to enable effective consulting and collaboration.
* Act as a trusted advisor to senior client stakeholders, promoting services and identifying growth opportunities.
* Resolve conflicts proactively, seeking outcomes that satisfy all stakeholders.
* Represent the organisation positively, providing leadership and support to colleagues.

Administration & Governance

* Lead by example in governance, ensuring adherence to processes and accountability within the team.
* Ensure timely and accurate completion of project reports, timing plans, and status updates.
* Maintain accurate records of chargeable and non‑chargeable time and support invoicing where appropriate.

Business Planning & Revenue Ownership

* Drive the delivery of annual client development plans, identifying and securing growth opportunities.
* Contribute to the preparation and delivery of proposals and presentations for new business and marketing initiatives.
* Represent the organisation at new business pitches, meetings, and client onboarding sessions.
* Develop client case studies and secure testimonials to showcase success.

Strategic Insight & Innovation

* Stay up to date with pension industry trends, member behaviour, and regulatory developments (e.g. dashboards, GMP).
* Champion innovation in digital engagement, behavioural nudges, and inclusive communications.
* Lead the development of scalable engagement frameworks for DB (and DC) schemes.

What Are We Looking For?

* Experience in the pensions sector.
* Experience working within a communications team while managing your own client portfolio (either in‑house or agency/provider).
* Experience leading multi‑disciplinary teams and managing multiple complex projects under tight deadlines.
* Proven experience in client relationship management, delivery leadership, and commercial planning.
* Strong consulting skills, including proactive problem‑solving, active listening, and a collaborative approach.
* Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
