Associate Director - Head of Fundraising - Volunteer
1 day ago Be among the first 25 applicants
The Head of Fundraising will lead the development and delivery of SNF’s fundraising approach, helping secure the resources needed to grow our impact. This includes developing a funding pipeline across grants, individual giving, and donations, and working closely with the Board.
What difference will you make? The Associate Director - Head of Fundraising will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of The Safety Net Foundation. We’re a new CIC with a big mission to open up careers in health and safety to people from lower socio‑economic backgrounds through mentoring, practical experience, and guided support. To grow that impact, we need stable, reliable income — and that’s where this role makes a real difference.
Your work will determine how quickly we can expand our programmes, reach more mentees, and support more volunteers. By building our early fundraising strategy and securing those first grants and donations, you’ll help us move from a promising start‑up CIC to a sustainable organisation with the resources to deliver meaningful change.
Every successful funding bid or giving campaign you shape will translate directly into more mentoring matches, more training resources, more outreach, and more opportunities for people who would otherwise struggle to access professional support. You’ll also help us develop strong foundations — from fundraising processes to clear messaging — that will benefit the CIC for years to come.
Because we’re volunteer‑led and still in our early stages, the impact of your contribution will be immediate and visible. You won’t be a small part of a big machine; you’ll be instrumental in building something that doesn’t currently exist. Your expertise will influence how we operate, how we grow, and how we bring long‑term stability to a cause that desperately needs more support in the UK.
In short, this role helps us scale our mission, deepen our impact, and give more people the chance to thrive in a profession that can genuinely change lives.
What are we looking for?
We’re looking for someone with practical fundraising experience who can help us build a simple, effective fundraising function from the ground up. You don’t need to cover every income stream, but you should have solid experience in at least one area such as small grants, trust applications, individual giving, community fundraising, or early‑stage campaigns. What matters most is your ability to spot realistic opportunities, shape a workable plan, and produce strong, targeted applications.
Clear, confident writing is essential. Much of this role involves explaining our mission and impact in a compelling way — whether that’s for a funding bid, a short proposal, or a message to supporters.
Because we’re an early‑stage, volunteer‑led CIC, we need someone who’s comfortable working independently, making recommendations, and bringing structure without overcomplicating things. You’ll have the support of the Board of Directors, but you’ll also have the freedom to shape how fundraising is set up.
A good grasp of fundraising fundamentals is important — compliance, ethical practice, basic reporting, and Gift Aid. If you’ve previously raised income for a small CIC, or community organisation, that experience will give you a strong advantage. You’ll understand what’s realistic at this stage and how to build processes that are proportionate and sustainable.
Knowledge of funding related to mentoring, social mobility, education, youth opportunities, or community development is useful but not essential. What matters most is that you can connect our mission to funders’ priorities and make a strong, evidence‑based case for support.
We’re looking for someone who genuinely cares about widening opportunity and improving social mobility. The Safety Net Foundation exists to support people from lower socio‑economic backgrounds to build careers in the health and safety profession, and we want someone who shares that commitment and can help secure the resources that make this possible.
In short, the qualities that matter most are
* Practical fundraising experience in at least one key area
* Strong written communication skills
* Ability to work independently and bring clarity and structure
* Understanding of fundraising compliance and good practice
* A genuine passion for social equity and accessible opportunity
If you can see potential, cut through noise, and help us build a realistic and effective fundraising approach, you’ll be a great fit for this role.
What will you be doing?
Your main job is to shape and lead our fundraising effort from the ground up. That means creating a simple, workable fundraising strategy that suits a small, volunteer‑led CIC and gives us a clear plan for the next 6–18 months. We’re not expecting huge income overnight; we’re looking for focus, structure, and the ability to spot the opportunities that will actually move the dial.
Key priorities
* Build our early fundraising strategy – map out where our first realistic income streams will come from, including small grants, trusts, foundations, community giving, and early individual giving campaigns.
* Lead on grant research and applications – identify small, suitable funders and put together well‑targeted, succinct bids; develop consistent fundraising assets – core messaging, stats, case studies, and standard text.
* Develop our individual and community giving approach – shape simple campaigns such as one‑off donations, a “Friends of SNF” concept, or small community fundraisers; advise on donation platforms, supporter journeys, and early donor recognition.
* Work collaboratively across the CIC – link in with Founders and other Associate Directors to keep income generation consistent and joint‑up; support or coach volunteers who want to run small fundraising activities locally.
* Maintain transparency and good governance – understand basics of fundraising compliance, Gift Aid, ethical fundraising, and simple impact reporting; keep the Board updated on progress, opportunities, gaps, and risks.
How we work
The CIC is volunteer‑run and currently in its early growth phase. You’ll have support from the Trustees and senior volunteers, but you’ll also have freedom to shape how fundraising is set up. We’re looking for someone proactive, organised, and comfortable working independently without needing constant oversight.
Impact
Your work will directly influence how quickly we can expand mentoring, support more people from lower‑income backgrounds, and fund resources that open professional doors for those who need it most.
