We’ve got an exciting opportunity for talented individuals to join our workforce. Working for Nottingham City Council offers competitive pay, generous pension scheme, and a culture that supports innovation, inclusion and progress.
About The Team
You’ll be part of a small, friendly team focused on waste and cleansing public engagement, with the opportunity to work flexibly in a hybrid role and access a range of council-wide benefits.
About The Role
We’re looking for a proactive and creative Engagement and Behaviour Change Officer to join Nottingham City Council’s Waste and Cleansing Service on a fixed‑term maternity cover.
This is a great opportunity to shape how we work with residents and businesses to reduce waste, improve recycling, and keep Nottingham clean.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll lead the planning and delivery of engagement campaigns that encourage positive behaviour change across the city. Your work will help improve recycling rates, reduce contamination, and tackle environmental issues such as littering and fly‑tipping.
* Design and deliver creative campaigns that engage and educate the public and promote correct recycling and waste disposal behaviour
* Lead targeted campaigns linked to local priorities and national initiatives
* Make it easier for people to recycle more and waste less
* Work closely with residents, businesses and community groups
* Create engaging content for digital, social media and offline channels
* Measure what works, using insight and data to improve future campaigns
* Build strong relationships with teams across the Council and external partners to maximise impact
About You
We’re looking for someone who can connect with people and turn ideas into meaningful action.
You’ll Bring
* Experience of engagement, campaigns, or behaviour change work, particularly in a public‑facing realm
* Experience creating communications and engagement tools (online and offline)
* A good understanding of how behaviour change happens in practice
* Experience evaluating campaigns or programmes and using insight to improve delivery
* Strong digital skills including social media and standard IT packages
Benefits
Our benefits include:
* 26 days annual leave (rising to 33 days after 5 years’ service) + bank holidays with the ability to buy additional leave annually
* Access to a generous, defined benefit pension scheme offering 17.9%
* Smart Working – to support your work‑life balance
* Health and wellbeing benefits including access to our Employee Assistance Programme
* Discounted membership at selected local sports and fitness centres, cinema, shopping and much more
EEO and Diversity
Nottingham City Council is committed to recruiting a talented workforce that reflects the communities we serve. We are a fair and inclusive employer and welcome applications from people from all backgrounds and with different abilities.
* We particularly want to hear from you if you are from Minority Ethnic communities, identify within the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer+ community (LGBTQ+), or if you are Disabled – these groups of people are underrepresented in our workforce, and we’d like to reflect our local population more through our recruitment processes.
* We are supportive of flexible working arrangements wherever possible and would encourage you to discuss this during the selection process, should this be something you are interested in.
