Emillie client, the RSPCA in Birmingham, have an exciting opportunity for two Veterinary Nurse to join them permanently!
•Salary: £27,928 - £30,160 inclusive of 4% shift allowance
•35 hours per week, shifts based on a 10-week rolling rota
•Day shifts: 8:00am – 3:30pm
•Evening shifts: 2:30pm – 10:00pm
•Night shifts: 10:00pm – 8:00am (1 week every 10 weeks, with a night shift allowance of 33% of the basic hourly rate)
The Hospital is set in a rural area with excellent transport links and offers a spacious, well-equipped environment. The team includes seven Veterinary Surgeons, 20 Registered Veterinary Nurses, and nine support staff. The management is highly committed to personal development, fostering a collaborative and supportive atmosphere.
Veterinary Nurses play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of this busy hospital, providing care for a diverse range of animal welfare cases, including companion animals and wildlife. The hospital operates around the clock and supports frontline animal welfare efforts by delivering essential veterinary services.
A typical day in this role may include providing direct medical and surgical care, supporting welfare cases, maintaining accurate clinical records, and dispensing medication in line with professional and internal guidelines. Nurses are also responsible for upholding high levels of clinical hygiene and biosecurity, monitoring anaesthesia, supporting perioperative care, and engaging in community outreach initiatives. Continued professional and personal development is a core part of the role and actively encouraged.
Applicants must be fully qualified Veterinary Nurses with current registration with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS). They should bring prior experience from a relevant setting, such as a veterinary practice, wildlife rehabilitation centre, or animal welfare organisation. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong communication skills, sound clinical judgment, and the ability to make evidence-based decisions. They must be capable of working independently as well as collaboratively, possess excellent organisational and prioritisation skills, and show a proactive, problem-solving mindset.
