We are looking to expand our team to support the newly opened Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) based at Newmarket Community Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a brand new multi-disciplinary centre with state-of-the-art equipment in a bright, spacious, and welcoming setting.

A recruitment and retention bonus of 7% per annum is applicable to this role.


Main duties of the job

Training will be undertaken across West Suffolk Foundation Trust (including at West Suffolk Hospital and Newmarket CDC sites). Upon completion of the course, the successful candidate will be based at Newmarket CDC, with potential future opportunities to rotate to West Suffolk Hospital. Once qualified, the Ultrasound Department may offer flexible working options, including full and part-time hours and condensed weeks. We are working towards 7-day working at the CDC and the wider ultrasound department. During the training period, the successful candidate is expected to work a minimum of 30 hours.

Job responsibilities

You will be trained to obtain high-quality ultrasound images and diagnostic reports within hospital and community settings. This may include gynecological and obstetric examinations, with potential opportunities to continue training in abdominal ultrasound after completing a postgraduate certificate. You will work independently in a specialist area, making judgements on examination protocols and patient management. Maintaining high clinical and safety standards, you will participate in quality assurance and safety procedures, and actively contribute as a proactive member of the ultrasound team, utilizing effective communication skills to support a cohesive working environment.

Person Specification


Education and Qualifications

* Qualified healthcare professional with relevant undergraduate degree
* HCPC or NMC registration
* Knowledge of QSI process (or similar)


Experience and Knowledge

* Minimum 1-year post-qualification NHS experience as a healthcare professional
* Shadowing experience in an ultrasound department with a sonographer
* Experience in governance and audit activities


Skills and Abilities

* Ability to work calmly under pressure
* Effective in reactive environments, prioritising workload and decision-making

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This role is subject to DBS checks under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1975 (Exceptions Order 1975). A disclosure application will be required to check for any criminal convictions.

Salary: £37,338 to £52,809 per annum, pro-rata
