Shape the Future of Urban Transport!
At West Midlands Metro, we’re driving forward the next stage of our expansion into Dudley – a project that will connect communities, boost local economies, and deliver a more sustainable transport system for the West Midlands.
This is your opportunity to step into a high-impact role leading two core infrastructure disciplines – Permanent Way and Overhead Line – through to successful delivery.
You’ll make sure that every new asset is safe, compliant, and ready to support smooth passenger operations from day one.
What You’ll Be Doing
As our Project Assurance Lead, you will:
* Take ownership of both Permanent Way and Overhead Line disciplines during the expansion, ensuring readiness for operation.
* Shadow the existing MML Team Leaders during a structured 3-month induction to gain network-specific knowledge.
* Lead on infrastructure checks and static testing to verify compliance with design specifications and operational suitability.
* Oversee snagging inspections, joint walkthroughs, and the sign-off process to declare assets safe and service-ready.
* Coordinate the familiarisation and training of operations and maintenance teams on new track and overhead line environments.
* Develop and update maintenance schedules, procedures, and instructions aligned with manufacturer and regulatory guidance.
* Support the collation of Health & Safety File data, ensuring compliance with CDM regulations.
* Ensure all new assets are fully registered and scheduled in the Agility asset management system.
* Work closely with the Infrastructure Manager, Asset Handover Coordinator, and Technical Officer to guarantee a seamless transition into “business as usual” operations.
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
* Demonstrable experience across both Permanent Way and Overhead Line infrastructure.
* Strong knowledge of maintenance principles, asset inspection, and safety regulations within light rail or rail infrastructure.
* APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ), or Prince 2.
* NEBOSH Managing Safely or IOSH Managing Safely.
* Ability to interpret technical drawings and confirm asset compliance.
* Experience of commissioning and operational readiness (static testing, staff training, documentation).
* Familiarity with CMMS systems such as Agility.
Desirable:
* Experience of infrastructure handovers, extensions, or commissioning in light rail/rail projects.
* Understanding of Health & Safety File requirements under CDM regulations.
* Knowledge of West Midlands Metro infrastructure and practices.
Why This Role Stands Out
This isn’t a standard role. You’ll be the key link between two of the most critical rail systems – track and overhead line – during a live network expansion. Your work will directly ensure passenger safety, asset reliability, and the long-term resilience of the West Midlands Metro.
