Specialty Doctor Elderly Care/Intermediate Care
Closing date 28 June 2026. This substantive part‑time (3 days per week) post is funded at 6 Programmed Activities (PAs) with 5 Direct Clinical Contact activities (DCC) and 1 Supporting Professional Activities (SPA). The role is flexible: job share, remote sessions, fixed‑term are considered.
Main duties of the job
Work as part of an experienced multidisciplinary team delivering care to adults and older people admitted to the Community Hospital Inpatient ward for rehabilitation and discharge planning at Mountnessing Court, Billericay. Provide clinical supervision and support from existing consultants. Gain experience managing complex medical and frail elderly patients requiring step‑down care from acute hospitals across Mid and South Essex locality.

Job responsibilities
- Assessment and clerking of new admissions; manage ongoing medical issues and complete electronic discharge letters.
- Assist with twice weekly consultant ward rounds and attend once weekly multidisciplinary team meetings for discharge planning.
- Provide clinical response to any emergency clinical issues that may arise.
- Apply Trust protocols, procedures and adhere to them; maintain accurate records in Systm One EMR for audit purposes.
- Ensure effective risk management: accident/incident reporting, risk assessment, control and recording in the Trust risk register.
- Act as an autonomous registered practitioner, legally and professionally accountable for unsupervised actions guided by the professional code of conduct and Trust guidelines.
- Maintain full registration with the GMC licence to practice.
- Continuously develop and evaluate care plans for patients with complex needs; initiate referrals and provide education to patients and relatives, ensuring dignity, independence and quality of life.
- Support practice with evidence‑based research, literature and peer review.

Qualifications
- Registration with the GMC with a licence to practice.
Experience
- At least 4 years of full‑time postgraduate training (or equivalent gained part‑time) of which at least 2 years are in a relevant specialty training programme or fixed‑term specialty trainee.
