Unix System Administrator
Location: Cheltenham/Gloucestershire ( on site 5 days per week)
Due to security clearance requirements candidates must be eligible for or currently hold SC or DV. Candidates must be sole UK national/British citizenand resided in the UK for 10 years and over.

At DXC, one of our platinum accounts has openings for Unix System Administrators at varying skill levels. The successful candidate will work within multiple teams and will be innovative and analytical with a good eye for detail. Your role will include implementing standards, policies, and procedures for continual service improvement.
Role responsibilities:
1. Provide first and second level technical support on incidents and problems
2. Monitor overall system performance and ensure smooth system functionality
3. Create, maintain, and utilise documentation
4. Assist building compliance with processes and policies

Desirable Skills and Technologies
10. Proficiency in UNIX/Linux systems (Red Hat, Debian, Solaris, AIX, etc.)
11. Shell scripting (Bash, KornShell, etc.)
12. Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, Chef
13. Process and job control (cron, at, systemd timers)
14. Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NFS, SSH, FTP)
15. Filesystem management (LVM, ext4, XFS, ZFS)
16. Performance tuning and monitoring (top, vmstat, iostat, sar, netstat)
17. Exposure to automation software such as Ansible/Puppet
18. Knowledge of scripting with Bash, Python, and/or Git
19. Experience of AWS
20. Automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef)
21. Virtualization and containers (KVM, VMware, Docker, Podman)
