BBC Extend Programme
This role is part of BBC Extend for disabled people. Role Purpose
We’re looking for a producer and journalist to support audio production and compile/read radio news bulletins for BBC Local Radio stations across England and the Channel Islands. As an experienced journalist and newsreader with strong delivery, you’ll bring energy to showcase local journalism, produce and deliver news content to local stations, and collaborate across the Central Team.
Key Responsibilities and Impact
* Produce accurate, engaging news content to tight deadlines in fast‑paced environments.
* Prepare and read news bulletins with a professional broadcast voice and strong editorial judgement.
* Live‑report breaking news or major events, remaining calm, accurate, and responsive under pressure.
* Collaborate with multi‑platform teams to maximise reach.
* Apply knowledge of media law and BBC editorial guidelines, working effectively in a team under pressure.
* Contribute ideas to broader output and support BBC Local’s high‑quality content.
Essential Skills and Experience
* Demonstrable experience as a journalist, producing and delivering accurate news content to tight deadlines.
* Proven experience preparing and reading news bulletins, with a confident, professional broadcast voice.
* Evidence of live reporting on breaking news or major events.
* Strong multi‑platform experience, collaborating with teams to maximise reach.
* Knowledge of media law and BBC editorial guidelines, with ability to work in a team environment under pressure.
Desired but Not Required
* Understanding and working knowledge of the BBC’s products (e.g., BBC News Online, BBC Sounds).
* Experience working with national news and planning teams to create high‑impact moments.
* Other transferable strengths and skills that add value.
