Job summary
An opportunity has arisen to join our team at the Ipswich base within ESNEFT. We are inviting applications for a full-time substantive post in the ESNEFT infection service, suitable for candidates on the specialist register with a qualification in Medical Microbiology, consultants dual accredited in Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, or Consultant Clinical Scientists who have completed a training programme in Medical Microbiology.
For medical consultants, qualifications required are FRCPath(UK) or equivalent, full GMC registration, and inclusion on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council in Medical Microbiology or Microbiology/Infectious Diseases, and within six months of CCT or its equivalent at interview date.
Candidates applying as Consultant Clinical Scientists are expected to have completed a recognised Higher Specialty Scientific Training (HSST) programme in Medical Microbiology and to have passed the FRCPath(UK) examinations for infection training.

1. To provide leadership in managing, developing, and providing Microbiology and Infection Control Services.
2. To undertake laboratory work, advise on diagnostic samples, validate and interpret results, and help establish policies and procedures.
3. To participate in patient diagnosis and management through liaison with patients, clinicians, and community staff.
4. To engage in business planning, introduce new methods, and plan for staff and equipment needs.
5. To review departmental policies, SOPs, and protocols regularly in line with Trust policies on document control and risk management.
6. To maintain effective communication with clinical colleagues and service users, including infectious disease control and health protection staff.
7. To advise on infection control issues alongside microbiology and infection control nursing colleagues.
