Contract Type: Permanent, Full‑TimeOverviewWe are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the delivery of high-quality building services design across a diverse public‑sector estate. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on technical leadership, stakeholder engagement, and delivering sustainable,pliant, and cost-effective mechanical solutions.You will play a key role in shaping mechanical engineering strategy across capital projects, refurbishments, and ongoing estate improvements, ensuring buildings are safe, efficient, and FutureLearn.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead the mechanical design process for building services projects, from concept through to detailed design and delivery.
2. Produce high-quality mechanical designs including HVAC, heating, cooling, ventilation, domestic services, and associated systems.
3. Oversee technical standards, ensuringpliance with relevant legislation, CIBSE guidelines, and public‑sector requirements.
4. Manage and mentor junior engineers, providing technical guidance and quality assurance.
5. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including electrical engineers, architects, project managers, and contractors.
6. Conduct site surveys, feasibility studies, and condition assessments across a varied public‑sector property portfolio.
7. Prepare technical reports, specifications, schedules, and tender documentation.
8. Support sustainability and decarbonisation initiatives, including low‑carbon technologies and energy‑efficient design.
9. Engage with internal stakeholders, external consultants, and statutory bodies to ensure smooth project delivery.
10. Contribute to long‑term asset planning and mechanical engineering strategy for the estate.
Skills & Experience Required
11. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent).
12. Chartered or working toward Chartered status (CEng) with CIBSE or IMechE.
13. Significant experience in mechanical building services design, ideally within or for the public sector.
14. Strong understanding of UK building regulations,pliance frameworks, and public‑sector procurement.
15. Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and mechanical calculation tools.
16. Excellentmunication skills with the ability to present technical information clearly to non‑technical stakeholders.
17. Proven ability to lead projects, manage workloads, and deliver to deadlines.
18. A proactive, solutions‑focused mindset with strong attention to detail.
