This role presents a unique opportunity to contribute to a new organisation with a clear mission: to make a real difference in the lives of victims. You will serve as our internal lawyers, reporting directly to IBCA's General Counsel.

This is an excellent and exciting chance for stretching development on a Government priority, with the opportunity to work on a number of pieces of interesting work, policy advice, litigation support, operational delivery, while working closely with the General Counsel, with line management opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

* Supporting IBCA's General Counsel to develop and maintain overall legal and litigation strategies for the organisation.
* Working with strategy and governance colleagues to develop and maintain policies for equalities analysis, safeguarding, data protection, managing risk and counter-fraud.
* Working with policy and operational colleagues to develop operational and decision-making guidance for claim managers.
* Advising and assisting cross-functional colleagues (including IBCA Claims Managers) on the Infected Blood Regulations.
* Leading operational legal support and providing advice to leadership on complex cases
* Resolving claim-specific disputes and responding to external litigation against IBCA (judicial reviews and Tribunal appeals).
* Strong experience and knowledge of public law, and appreciation of legal risk in a public law context
* Ability to think strategically and creatively, bringing wider legal experience to reach practical and pragmatic
* solutions at pace.
* Ability to pick up new areas of work quickly and communicate effectively in all formats
* Effective team working and the ability to build constructive internal working relationships
* Previous experience advising on operational delivery in challenging/emotive environments
* Experience in equalities law, human rights law, data protection law and procurement.

Additional information:

A minimum 60% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace. Although requirements to attend other locations for official business will also count towards this level of attendance.

Qualifications

Applicants must be qualified to practise as a Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive in England and Wales or Scotland. You must have completed a training contract/pupillage/qualifying employment or have been exempted from this by the Law Society, the Bar Council or CILEx.
