Hours: 37.5 hours per week, 40 weeks per year (including inset days) + 12 weeks holiday
Our ‘employability teacher’ role offers an exciting opportunity for you to come join our team and support learners with complex needs in accessing and engaging with the world of work.
As the employability teacher you will work with our learners to support them in accessing a wide range of individualised work placements as well as engaging in bespoke classroom-based lessons.
Our learners are passionate about securing long term placements post-college and the key focus for this role is facilitating a smooth transition from education into the next stage of their life. We have state of the art facilities onsite which are used to maximise learner progress, and you will be part of a passionate and determined multi-disciplinary team.
We strive to secure the best possible outcomes for our learners and are looking for someone who will bring relevant experience and enthusiasm to this unique and rewarding role.
You’ll support our students aged between 19-25 with challenging behaviours and complex needs to live their best lives and help us continue to provide high quality education and care.

What we’re looking for:
The young people within our specialist education settings have profound & complex learning difficulties and disabilities, Autistic Spectrum Condition, sensory impairments, and communication disorders.
We’re looking for people that are driven, enthusiastic and resilient, and will go the extra mile to help our children and young people live their best lives and be happy and valued members of their communities.
* Teaching degree or post graduate certificate, QTS or QTLS
* Previous experience with students who have Sensory Impairments, Autism and/or communication difficulties.
* British Sign Language or Makaton or signalong experience is desirable
* Previous experience with students who have severe and/or complex learning difficulties.
* Multi-disciplinary working experience
* Experience of behaviour management strategies & individual learning plans
Teacher Role Outline:
No two days will be the same as a Teacher with Seashell, you’ll help to promote the intellectual, physical and personal development of students in your class group and teach based on your students’ individual needs.
* Manage individualised curriculums for each student referring to programmes of study, termly topics and write IEPs in collaboration with other professionals.
* Involve non-teaching support staff in assessments, recording and reporting student’s progression.
* Communicate and consult with students, parents, the placing authorities and others with a legitimate interest in the students in your class.
* Advise and co-operate with the Senior Managers, other teachers and support staff on the preparation of programmes of study, teaching materials, methods of teaching and assessment and pastoral care.
* Maintain and improve the professional development of teaching and non-teaching staff in your area of responsibility.
* Liaise with residential care staff on the development of the extended curriculum for students in your class/group where appropriate.
* Work to agreed behavior management strategies and protocol to ensure the health and safety of students and staff.
* Supervise and where appropriate cover other college classes as instructed by the Head of College.
* Support with personal care and feeding the students as and when required.
