Polypipe Building Products works with national and local developers, plumbing and heating engineers, general builders and groundworkers to deliver above and below ground drainage systems, rainwater solutions as well as hot and cold plastic plumbing products. Role Overview: The purpose of the role is to carry out tool changes and line changes within the extrusion department to maintain optimum production, whilst being fully compliant to all corporate and legislative standards and guidelines. Key Responsibilities: Setup tools on various machines and achieve high quality parts during production Carry out scheduled tool changes quickly, efficiently, and effectively to minimise changeover times and machine downtime adhering to standards set out by setting sheets. Ensure the production plans are met on time and in full at the required cost and quality levels. Ensure that first offs meet both visual and dimensional specifications and are to set guidelines. Monitoring line speeds against target speeds on a regular basis, ensuring deviations are identified and rectified in a timely manner. Work with training coordinator to ensure knowledge, training and development is passed onto relevant new starts or apprentices. Ensure all relevant data is captured and entered onto appropriate systems (e.g. scrap, production outputs, tooling problems, downtime, material reconciliation, quality issues etc). Conducting material and colour changes as dictated by the production schedule, including replenishing raw materials. Fault finding and rectifying extrusion processing problems in a timely manner to maintain quality and minimise scrap levels. Ensure all waste products are separated into their designated containers for safe disposal. Assisting with extrusion tooling maintenance as required. Understand safe working practices within a manufacturing environment and maintain a safe working environment. Ensure a programme of continuous improvement in all activities. Skills & Requirements: A knowledge and understanding of extrusion machines. Ability to set up extrusion lines using setting sheet as a starting guide, removal/fitting of various heads onto the lines. To be able to obtain first off sample for dimensional and physical testing. Ability to understand and use all workshop machinery. How to use an overhead crane safely and correctly, and the correct safe use of lifting equipment. To be able to conduct quality checks for visual, dimensional and stress testing. Knowledge of Health and Safety and Environmental standards for self and others Demonstrates the potential for problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills, and who are willing to engage in practical tasks and projects to develop their skills.
