Role Summary
The role of the Supervisor is to be responsible for the day to day operations of St Jude’s Hostel. This includes overseeing and assisting with the daily personal care of residents and the performance of staff in order to maintain a continuing excellence in all aspects of care and the meeting of all licensing standards.
Responsibilities
* Oversee the personal care of all residents
* Ensure resident information is managed in line with privacy legislation.
* Provide overall supervision of medication and medication management in a manner consistent with the requirements of WA Health Department.
* Responsible for performance of care staff and housekeeping staff;
* Liaise (in conjunction with the Registered Nurse) with Social Workers, Doctors and other health professionals.
* Assist with residents assessments.
* Assist Facility Manager with staff rosters and relief staff as necessary.
* Ensure that staff comply with relevant Acts, Legal requirements and ethical standards.
* Promote and implement recovery orientated services with residents.
* Support residents to have the freedom to choose, maintain, develop and participate in their own lifestyle.
* Other duties as required.
* Actively involved in promoting OSH.
* Attending all in-service training sessions.
* Follow and demonstrate the facility’s Policies & Procedures at all times.
* Fully support and uphold managerial decisions regardless of personal feelings.
Skills, Attributes and Experience
* Ability to facilitate personal and emotional recovery of people living with a mental illness.
* Experience working with people living with a mental illness.
* Sound understanding of current resident care including safe medication administration, and with regulations. i.e. First aid certificate
* Patience, discretion and a high level of professionalism.
* Sound understanding of principles used in caring for residents who require assistance with activities of daily living.
* Ability to observe and document symptoms and behaviour.
* Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
* Ability to gain interest, respect, and co-operation of residents.
* Ability to function effectively in an emergency situation; practice universal precautions.
* Able to analyse and solve problems.
* Sound management, leadership and organisational skills.
* Good communication and interpersonal skills.
* Familiarity with management principles and practices.
