Cumberland Council is seeking dynamic and experienced Planning Team Leaders and is currently hiring for positions across different areas and remits. These include mainstream development management operations from our offices in Carlisle and Workington and area wide for the minerals and waste planning team. In these pivotal roles, you will provide leadership and management to officers, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, efficient, and
customer-focused planning services.
As an area Planning Team Leader, you will play a key role in advancing development opportunities within Cumberland, advising the Council on planning matters, and contributing to the creation of vibrant, sustainable and accessible places. Your responsibilities will include strategic development management, budgetary control, and adherence to legislation and policies. You will also develop and maintain excellent working relationships with developers, councillors, and community organisations, ensuring the highest levels of customer care. The Planning Team Leader Minerals and Waste will be lead officer for Minerals and Waste planning overseeing a complex and varied caseload and supervising staff in a dedicated
team.

Key Responsibilities
* Leading the assessment development proposals and undertaking necessary statutory duties: Assist the Service Manager with achieving high levels of development management performance, input to strategic projects and consultations, influencing council developments, and reviews to ensure alignment with Council objectives.
* Team Management: Lead and manage the team to deliver high-quality, efficient, and customer-focused services, facilitating sustainable development and economic growth. Budgetary Control: Implement and oversee budgetary controls to ensure effective use of resources, quality controls, and reporting mechanisms. Policy Development: Assist in the development and production of the Cumberland Local Plan and associated documents. Relationship Management: Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with developers, councillors, community organisations, and the public, ensuring consistent application of customer care.
These roles are available on a permanent basis.
