We deliver safety, warmth, and comfort to homes and businesses. Every role, whether in the office or on the front line, plays a key part in this mission. Here’s how you will contribute…
1. Strategic leadership by taking full ownership of the SGN Safety Risk operating model, ensuring we deploy our expertise where the risk is greatest.
2. Overseeing policy adoption and assurance outputs to ensure consistent, high-standard safety domains across the entire business.
3. Designing and delivering a multi-year roadmap for specialist risk interventions that align perfectly with our SMS and engineering standards.
4. Providing senior leadership with evidence-based insights on risk, resource allocation, and the systemic improvements needed to keep us evolving.
5. Leading and inspiring our Risk & Policy Leads, ensuring their performance is directly tied to our strategic safety outcomes.
What you will need
6. NEBOSH National Diploma (or equivalent) & Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Risk Management or related discipline – or significant equivalent working experience
7. Deep expertise in Safety Management Systems (SMS), specifically policy governance and assurance
8. A mastery of risk-based prioritisation and scoring to guide strategic resource allocation
9. The ability to translate complex assurance findings into actionable policy or treatment plans
10. High-level influencing skills, with the confidence to advise and challenge senior leadership using evidence-based insights
11. 6+ years’ experience in high-risk, regulated industries (Gas or Utilities experience is highly advantageous)
12. A proven track record of leading strategic safety or enterprise-level risk programmes
13. Experience managing senior specialists and navigating third-party safety resource partnerships
14. Direct experience embedding assurance insights into SMS and risk framework improvements
