We are inviting applications for a Band 6 Charge Nurse position in the Emergency Department at Borders General Hospital. The role involves working within a team of other Band 6 Charge Nurses and a Senior Charge Nurse. Essential experience includes Emergency Nursing, with additional transferable skills from post-registration experience in an Emergency Department or at Charge Nurse level being advantageous.
The successful candidate will be the senior nursing decision-maker on shift, leading the team, supporting and developing Registered Nurses and Healthcare Support Workers, and deputising for the Senior Charge Nurse when necessary. The department is part of the Scottish Trauma Network, serving as the first point of contact for stabilization for the South of Scotland and escalating care to Edinburgh Major Trauma Centre or Newcastle. It handles a high volume of patients daily, with a busy and unpredictable workload, requiring adaptability.
