Position: Temporary Works Design Engineer

Salary: £35,000 - £45,000
A leading civil engineering contractor is looking for a Temporary Works Design Engineer to join their growing team offering a competitive salary of up to £45,000, plus excellent benefits. The company delivers complex projects in water, infrastructure, and coastal protection, managing schemes from concept to completion. This role will work closely with project teams, subcontractors, and external designers to develop practical and safe engineering solutions that integrate seamlessly with construction methodology and programme requirements.
The position would suit an Engineer with a strong understanding of temporary works and structural design, looking to take ownership of design delivery and gain exposure to some of the UK’s most unique and challenging heritage projects.

Temporary Works Design Engineer Job Overview
* Produce and review temporary works designs (shoring, propping, cofferdams, access, marine structures).
* Prepare design briefs, calculations, drawings, and risk assessments to BS 5975.
* Provide technical support to site teams, resolving design queries during delivery.
* Coordinate with Temporary Works Coordinators, subcontractors, and designers to ensure safe implementation.
* Integrate designs within overall construction sequencing and environmental constraints.
* Promote innovation, digital design (AutoCAD, BIM), and continuous improvement.
Temporary Works Design Engineer Job Requirements
* Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
* 3–5 years’ experience in structural or temporary works design.
* Knowledge of BS 5975, CDM 2015, and relevant design codes.
* Experience with marine, fluvial, or heritage projects would be advantageous.
* Proficient in AutoCAD and design software such as Tedds, Tekla, or similar.
* Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
* Working towards Chartership (ICE or IStructE).
* Full UK Driving Licence.
