Job description
Health Improvement Officer (Tobacco Control)
Sheffield and the Public Health Service
Sheffield is a brilliant and diverse city of nearly 600,000 people and is the fourth biggest city in England. We have amazing environmental, cultural, sporting and heritage assets, and are proud of the fact that our outdoor city has been named as the greenest in the UK and is the only city in the UK to include a national park within its boundaries.
The award-winning Public Health Service has recently undergone some changes and is now a single service closely allied with the council's Integrated Commissioning Service under the leadership of the Director of Public Health. This aligning of the Public Health Service alongside Integrated Commissioning brings exciting new partnerships and development opportunities for staff.
It is a very exciting time to be working in the field of tobacco control. Through maximising the additional national investment Sheffield has received for local community stop smoking services and incentives for smoking cessation in pregnancy, we have a real opportunity to make smoking obsolete and achieve the government ambition to achieve a Smokefree generation by 2030. The Tobacco and Vapes Bill, currently progressing through parliament, is set to be a game changer in achieving a Smokefree society and protecting children from harm.

About You
You will have experience working in public health or a related field, developing and supporting partnerships with a range of organisations, including public, private, voluntary and health sector. Specific knowledge or experience of working on tobacco control would be beneficial but is not a requirement.
You will need well-developed communication skills, the ability to interpret and implement national and local strategies and to take an evidence based approach to decision making .You will be able to inspire, influence and motivate others and act as an advocate for public health both within the council and among key partners. You will be self-motivated and able to work autonomously to deadlines.
If this sounds like you, come and join our team. In return we can provide a fantastic and committed team, flexible / hybrid working, excellent partnerships and a supportive learning environment with development opportunities.
